Brookfield Title I Information SY 25/26
TitleĀ IĀ is the nationās largest assistance program for schools.Ā It provides funding to supplement educational opportunities for children who are most at risk andĀ increasing student achievementĀ in schools selected on the basis of the economic level of families. The primary focusĀ is to ensure student access toĀ provide all children significant opportunities to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and to close educational achievement gapsĀ
TheĀ Purpose ofĀ TitleĀ IĀ is toĀ improve student achievement through:Ā

- Professional DevelopmentĀ
- FamilyĀ InvolvementĀ
How do schools qualify for Title I funding?

In FCPS, schools are identified to receive Title I funding based on the percentage of students that are eligible for free or reduced-price meals based on the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).
Schools are identified as Title I if they are a(n):
- Elementary school with 57% or more students eligible for free meals through direct certification.
- Middle school with 70% or more students eligible for free meals through direct certification.
- High school with 75% or more students eligible for free meals through direct certification.
- There are 51 FCPS TitleĀ IĀ schools (FCPSĀ TitleĀ IĀ Schools)

Parents' Rights at aĀ TitleĀ 1 School
Brookfield Elementary School is receiving federal Title I grant funds under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015. As part of the federal guidelines for Title I, your childās school has specific expectations for student performance and teacher qualifications. You can find information on how your childās school is meeting these expectations by viewing http://schoolquality.virginia.gov/. To access your schoolās profile, type the school name in the search field. If you would like a paper copy of this profile, please contact Principal Lesley Hassen.
ESSA allows parents in schools receiving Title I grant funds to ask for information about state and local policies regarding student participation in required tests and about parentsā rights to refuse testing for their children.Ā Information about required tests at each grade level can be located at https://www.fcps.edu/academics/student-tests-assessments/grade-level-tests. Information about parentsā rights related to testing can be located at https://www.fcps.edu/node/34277.Ā
Additionally, ESSA allows parents in schools receiving Title I grant funds to ask for certain information about their childrenās teachers. Parents may ask for the teacherās:
- College and graduate school preparation, including degrees and major fields of study for each degree;
- Licensure status, including subject and grade level endorsements, and whether those licenses meet the requirements for teachers of their childās subject or grade level.
Parents may also ask for information about the qualifications of any instructional assistants who provide services to their children.Ā
If you would like to receive any of this information about your childās teacher or instructional assistant, please write to the FCPS Human Resources Licensure Office at the address below. For your request to be fulfilled, you must include: your childās full name, the name of your childās school, and the name of the teacher or instructional assistant about whom you would like information.
