Good morning, Wolfpack Families,
As we begin a new week and a new quarter, I want to take a moment to celebrate the great energy and community spirit that defined our first quarter together.
Last Friday, we officially wrapped up the first quarter, and what a way to finish! Our PTA Trunk or Treat brought together so many students, families, and even WMES alumni for a night of fun and connection. We also concluded our Wolfpack Wobble fundraiser and celebrated our top fundraisers, who served as honorary Principal and Assistant Principals for the day. They joined in classroom observations, carried official administrator walkie talkies, and got a taste of leadership life!
Earlier in the week, we held a Parent Coffee where I discussed our Title I designation and what it means for our students. We also connected this to our School Improvement Plan and the Virginia School Performance and Support Framework, helping families understand how these pieces fit together to support our work at Washington Mill.
None of this would have been possible without our incredible volunteers—those who organized and ran our fundraiser, which will fund after-school programs this spring, and those who helped plan and staff our Trunk or Treat. I’m also so appreciative of the many hands that helped prepare and support our meetings and events throughout the week.
Washington Mill is a truly special place because of our families, staff, and students. Thank you for making our first quarter such a success. I’m grateful for each of you and looking forward to an equally outstanding second quarter ahead!
With appreciation,
Brad Bennink

Our first Attendance Challenge is underway, and we’re excited to see which class will win a donut party! We’re working hard this year to reduce chronic absenteeism, and we need your support to help every student succeed.
Here’s how you can help:
- Send your child to school every day — unless they have a fever, diarrhea, or are vomiting.
- Set a regular bedtime and turn off screens at least one hour before bedtime.
- Establish a consistent morning routine so your child wakes up on time and is ready to learn.
- Avoid scheduling medical appointments and extended trips when school is in session. If appointments must be made, let your child attend school before or after the appointment.
Let’s work together to build strong attendance habits and make every day count!
There’s still time to join us for our Veterans Day Breakfast! The deadline to RSVP and upload military-connected photos has been extended to Wednesday, November 5. Use the QR code or the link provided to sign up and share your photos. Click here to RSVP.
