Message from Mrs. Castillo

Lions

Lions had an action-packed week last week!  We are in the middle of field trip season, our 6th graders invited the fire department to help with an egg drop collaborative project, students are working on critical and creative thinking with Mrs. Argue, pumpkins are on display in the library, our Eco-Defense Squad made the news, and the administrators dressed up as lions on Friday.  Thank you for your partnership as we continue to have fun while learning.

Next week are multiple schedule changes.  Wednesday is a 3-hour early release for elementary schools to give teachers additional planning time.  Parents should receive a Talking Points message reminding them of their dismissal plans.  5th & 6th graders are invited to stay an extra hour to join the SCA Social - be sure your child has turned in their permission slip if they plan to stay. Friday is a 2-hour early release for the full county.  All students will be dismissed at 12:55 because it is the last day of Quarter 1.  Gradebooks will close and teachers will begin working on Quarter 1 progress report grades.

Bond Referendums Support Schools

Each year, the School Board and FCPS staff members work with the community to develop an updated, five-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for school building and renovation projects. To develop the CIP, the school system assesses changes in expected enrollments, academic programs, and facility conditions to determine priorities for new construction, renovations, and other capital facility projects. The School Board then evaluates the affordability of these school needs against other countywide requirements to determine the bond proposal.

Because of this, while FCPS and the School Board generally try to follow the CIP, changes can be made year-over-year depending on the evolving needs of the school division.

The School Board is committed to protecting the community’s investment in schools and other buildings, which have a combined present value approaching $9 billion. Not only do these facilities wear out over time, but they also become outdated, both technologically and instructionally. FCPS renovates its schools to ensure that students, countywide, have effective and efficient learning environments to thrive and grow.
