As the end of the first quarter quickly approaches, we want to express our sincere gratitude for your continued partnership and support in making our school a vibrant place for learning and growth! Our students have made wonderful progress, and we are committed to finishing the quarter strong, continuing to learn and explore new concepts together. We are also looking forward to celebrating Red Ribbon Week with a spirit week! This is an important time for our students to learn about making healthy life choices and committing to a positive, drug-free lifestyle, all while enjoying some fun themed days. Thank you for encouraging your children's participation and for helping us foster a safe, supportive, and enriching environment.

Hate Speech
At the October PTA meeting, Abby Ragan, principal will be discussing the recent community notifications about hate speech and racial slurs at Saratoga. Ms. Ragan will provide context to the notifications, discuss how Saratoga staff are responding, and how families can support Saratoga being a safe and inclusive community for each student. Two resources that you may use to talk with your child about hate speech are included below:

Purple Star School
Virginia Council on the Educational Opportunity for Military Children voted on October 1, 2025, to approve Saratoga Elementary School, a recipient of the SY 2025-2026 Purple Star 3rd Award. The Council recognizes that earning the award for the third time is no easy accomplishment and that by achieving this award status the school has established an embedded culture of belonging and support. It also recognizes that the school holds dear the important role students play as evident in the description of your school’s active peer-to-peer programming your applicant provided our reviewers.
Veterans Day
We invite our military connected families to complete the template attached to the Saratoga Connection with a family friendly picture and turn it in to be displayed on our Veteran Wall. Your child may get a template from their homeroom teacher too. All templates are to be turned in to your child’s teacher by October 31. Please know that completed templates will not be returned. Please do not include original pictures.
We are looking forward to honoring Saratoga connected Veterans. We will be hosting Doughnuts with Dependents on November 7 from 8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. All military connected families are invited to join us for doughnuts with their Saratoga student(s). Prior to Doughnuts with Dependents, we encourage all military connected families to submit a family friendly photo to be shown during Doughnuts with Dependents. Please see the flyer for additional information.
Following Doughnuts with Dependents, a parade will follow on at 9:30 AM for any veteran who is interested in participating.
Kiss n Ride
We are continuing to work with the Office of Safety and Security to enhance our current arrival and dismissal procedures to support a safe arrival and dismissal for all children, families, and staff members. It has recently come to our attention that cars are creating multiple lanes of traffic at arrival and dismissal in the parking lot. Please remain in the Kiss n Ride line and refrain from going around other cars. Due to the current design of our Kiss n Ride, there are times when people are walking in the parking lot during arrival and dismissal. We will be adding physical and visual reminders of the need to remain in the Kiss n Ride line and not drive through the parking lot. Please look for these updates soon!
Red Ribbon Week
Saratoga will celebrate Red Ribbon week from October 27 - 31. We will focus on the importance of healthy living through safe and healthy choices. Students may choose to participate in our Spirit Week. Please note that October 31 is PJ Day. Children are welcome to wear PJs. Please remind your child that we are not wearing costumes to school on Friday, October 31.
🩹 Immunization Events for FCPS Students
FCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will be providing school-required immunizations and optional flu shots for all FCPS students with no out-of-pocket costs. Immunization clinics will take place from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at Willow Oaks Administrative Center on:
- Thursday, November 6
- Tuesday, November 18
- Wednesday, November 19
- Thursday, November 20
A clinic will also take place at Frost Middle School on Saturday, November 15, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional dates will be made available throughout the school year.
Participation is voluntary. Parents or guardians may schedule an appointment for their student. Learn more about immunization resources.
Elementary Language Arts GradesProgress report grades in English language arts (ELA) have changed to reflect the 2024-25 curriculum, assessments, and Standards of Learning.
FCPS is raising the bar and setting high goals! We are teaching and grading students on the skills they need by the end of the school year. Think of it as a growth chart and each quarter students are measured in progress toward end of year expectations. In light of this, first quarter grades are often lower than the other quarters as students work to reach grade-level mastery.
This is an expected part of the learning journey. We are here to support every student as they progress in learning. We are celebrating the effort and growth toward these new, higher standards! Learn more about this change in ELA grading and reporting.
It's time to start creating your Reflections masterpiece!
Saratoga PTA is hosting the Reflections program, which provides opportunities for recognition and access to the arts which boosts student confidence and success in the arts and in life.Each year, hundreds of thousands of students in pre-K through grade 12 create original works of art in response to a student-created theme, "I belong"
Students can submit one entry in six different categories. Entry forms and rules are available online or in the school office & library. Saratoga Student entries are due November 12.

Con el fin del primer trimestre acercándose, queremos expresarles nuestra sincera gratitud por su continua colaboración y apoyo para hacer de nuestra escuela un lugar vibrante de aprendizaje y crecimiento. Nuestros estudiantes han logrado un progreso maravilloso, y nos comprometemos a terminar el trimestre con éxito, continuando con el aprendizaje y la exploración de nuevos conceptos juntos. ¡También esperamos celebrar la Semana del Listón Rojo con una semana de espíritu! Este es un momento importante para que nuestros estudiantes aprendan a tomar decisiones saludables y a comprometerse con un estilo de vida positivo y libre de drogas, mientras disfrutan de divertidos días temáticos. Discurso de Odio e Insultos Raciales
En la reunión de octubre de la PTA, la directora, Abby Ragan, hablará sobre las recientes notificaciones comunitarias sobre discurso de odio e insultos raciales en Saratoga. La Sra. Ragan contextualizará las notificaciones, explicará cómo está respondiendo el personal de Saratoga y cómo las familias pueden apoyar a Saratoga para que sea una comunidad segura e inclusiva para cada estudiante. Escuela Estrella Púrpura
El Consejo de Virginia sobre Oportunidades Educativas para Hijos de Militares votó el 1 de octubre de 2025 para aprobar la Escuela Primaria Saratoga, ganadora del 3.er Premio Estrella Púrpura del año escolar 2025-2026. El Consejo reconoce que obtener el premio por tercera vez no es tarea fácil y que, al lograrlo, la escuela ha establecido una cultura arraigada de pertenencia y apoyo. También reconoce que la escuela valora el importante papel que desempeñan los estudiantes, como se evidencia en la descripción del programa activo de apoyo entre pares que su solicitante proporcionó a nuestros evaluadores.
Día de los Veteranos
Invitamos a nuestras familias con vínculos militares a completar la plantilla adjunta a Saratoga Connection con una foto familiar y entregarla para exhibirla en nuestro Muro de Veteranos. Su hijo/a también puede recibir una plantilla de su maestro/a. Todas las plantillas deben entregarse al maestro/a de su hijo/a antes del 31 de octubre. Tenga en cuenta que las plantillas completadas no se devolverán. Por favor, no incluya fotos originales.
Nos entusiasma honrar a los veteranos con vínculos militares. El 7 de noviembre, de 8:30 a. m. a 9:00 a. m., celebraremos una fiesta de donas con sus dependientes. Todas las familias con vínculos militares están invitadas a disfrutar de una fiesta de donas con sus estudiantes de Saratoga. Besos y Paseos
Seguimos trabajando con la Oficina de Seguridad para mejorar nuestros procedimientos actuales de llegada y salida, con el fin de garantizar una llegada y salida segura para todos los niños, familias y personal. Recientemente, hemos notado que los vehículos están creando múltiples carriles de tráfico en el estacionamiento a la llegada y salida. Por favor, permanezca en la fila de Besos y Paseos y evite rodear a otros vehículos. Debido al diseño actual de nuestro Besos y Paseos, a veces hay personas caminando en el estacionamiento durante la llegada y salida. Agregaremos recordatorios físicos y visuales para recordarle que debe permanecer en la fila de Besos y Paseos y no conducir por el estacionamiento. ¡Esté atento a estas actualizaciones pronto!
Semana del Listón Rojo
Saratoga celebrará la Semana del Listón Rojo del 27 al 31 de octubre. Nos centraremos en la importancia de una vida sana a través de decisiones saludables y seguras. Los estudiantes pueden participar en nuestra Semana del Espíritu Escolar. Tengan en cuenta que el 31 de octubre es el Día del Pijama. Los niños pueden usar pijamas. Recuerden a sus hijos que no usaremos disfraces para ir a la escuela el viernes 31 de octubre.
🩹 Eventos para la Vacunación de los Estudiantes
FCPS, en asociación con Inspire Health Alliance, estará ofreciendo las vacunas exigidas para atender la escuela y de forma opcional, la vacuna contra la influenza a todos los estudiantes de FCPS sin costo alguno. Fechas adicionales de estos eventos serán notificadas durante el año escolar.
Las clínicas de vacunación estará abiertas entre las 3 y 6:30 p.m. en Willow Oaks Administrative Center los días:
- Miércoles, 19 de noviembre
También habrá una clínica que funcionará en la escuela Frost Middle School el sábado, 15 de noviembre, de 9 a.m. a 4:30 p.m.

Calificaciones de Lengua y Literatura de Primaria
Las calificaciones del informe de progreso en Lengua y Literatura en Inglés (ELA) han cambiado para reflejar el currículo, las evaluaciones y los Estándares de Aprendizaje 2024-25.
¡FCPS está elevando el nivel y estableciendo metas altas! Enseñamos y calificamos a los estudiantes en las habilidades que necesitan para el final del año escolar. Piense en esto como una tabla de crecimiento: cada trimestre se mide el progreso de los estudiantes hacia las expectativas de fin de año. Por ello, las calificaciones del primer trimestre suelen ser más bajas que las de los otros trimestres, ya que los estudiantes se esfuerzan por alcanzar el dominio del nivel de grado.
Esto es parte del aprendizaje. Estamos aquí para apoyar a cada estudiante en su progreso. ¡Celebramos el esfuerzo y el crecimiento hacia estos nuevos estándares más altos! Obtenga más información sobre este cambio en la calificación y los informes de ELA.
¡Es hora de empezar a crear tu obra maestra de Reflexiones!
La Asociación de Padres y Maestros de Saratoga (PTA) organiza el programa Reflexiones, que ofrece oportunidades de reconocimiento y acceso a las artes, lo que impulsa la confianza y el éxito de los estudiantes tanto en las artes como en la vida. Cada año, cientos de miles de estudiantes, desde preescolar hasta 12.º grado, crean obras de arte originales en respuesta a un tema creado por ellos mismos: "Pertenezco".
Los estudiantes pueden enviar una obra en seis categorías diferentes. Los formularios de inscripción y las reglas están disponibles en línea o en la secretaría y biblioteca de la escuela. La fecha límite para las inscripciones de los estudiantes de Saratoga es el 12 de noviembre.
