You can nominate one exceptional employee per category or recognize multiple individuals across categories! We only need a paragraph or two explaining how the nominee exemplifies outstanding work based on the award criteria. The form provides more details about each award.

👩🏫 Outstanding Teacher Has 3+ years of experience as a teacher (any school/district). Librarians are also eligible.
🆕 Outstanding New Teacher Has up to 3 years of experience as a teacher (any school/district). Librarians are included.
🏫 Outstanding Principal Has 3+ years of experience as a building principal (any school/district).
🧭 Outstanding Leader At least 1 year of experience as a Schedule-C or School-Based Administrator scale employee (excluding the principal). Examples: Assistant/Associate Principals, Director of Student Activities/Services.
💼 Outstanding Professional Employee At least 1 year of experience as a Schedule-B or non-instructional employee supporting school leadership. Examples: School-Based Technology Specialist, Psychologist, Social Worker, School Counselor.
🧰 Outstanding Operational Employee At least 1 year of experience as a Schedule-A or Classroom Instructional Support Scale employee. Examples: Administrative/Office Staff, Custodial Staff, Food Service Staff, Instructional Assistants.

Veterans Day is a time to recognize the courage and sacrifice of those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Students play an important role in expressing our gratitude. If you have a family member you'd like to honor, we invite you to participate in our Veterans Day display. Print out a copy of the form and complete it with information about your veteran.
Please include a photo (photocopy preferred) as well. These forms will be displayed in the school hallway to remind us of the importance of honoring those who served. If you have more than one family member you'd like to honor, please feel free to make copies of the form.
All forms with pictures should be submitted to the Thoreau main office by Wednesday, November 5. You may also attach the completed form with photo by emailing them to rranderson1@fcps.edu

Thoreau's Spring Musical is ALL SHOOK UP this year! Loosely based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, it’s 1955 and into a square little town rides a guitar-playing young man who changes everything and everyone he meets. Featuring mega hits from the beloved Elvis® catalogue this musical fantasy will have you jumpin’ out of your blue suede shoes with such classics as “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Hound Dog,” “Jailhouse Rock,” and “Don’t Be Cruel.”
The Audition INTEREST Meeting is Wednesday, October 29th from 2:30-3:30 in the Blackbox, C-107. Here you will learn about the show, Miss K's rehearsal process and more specifics on how to have an incredible audition. You will also receive the Schoology code where you can find all the audition materials. Auditions will be held the week before Thanksgiving. 🙂
ANYONE can audition and ALL are welcome and encouraged to come!! 🙂

The Federal Impact Aid Survey is now available to complete online. The Federal Impact Aid program provides money to districts that enroll federally connected students. Help FCPS secure funding from the Impact Aid Program by helping us identify:
- Military families.
- Federally connected families.
- Families living on a military base.
For families without access to ParentVUE, a paper copy of the form will be sent home with your student starting November 12. Your information will be kept strictly confidential.
If you have multiple children in FCPS, please fill out a form for each child. You will know you have completed all of the forms when you get to the final page and see a green check next to each of their names.
Step 1: The enrolling parent must Sign into your SIS ParentVUE.
Step 2: Look for the ‘Online Packets’ link at the top of the page. Click ‘Online Packets’.
Step 3: Next, click the ‘Federal Impact Aid Survey’ button on the bottom of the page and complete the survey.

South Lakes and Madison High School are excited for the upcoming Varsity Football game Friday, October 24th @ Madison. We are expecting a large turnout and to help ensure all participants and attendees have a safe and fun night, please review the entry procedures below and plan to arrive early. Gates open to the public @ 6pm.
1. All high school students will need to provide their student ID/SIS to enter the game. All high school students will be provided a color wrist band upon entry and must wear it for the entirety of the game. Students will be denied entry if they fail to comply.
2. Middle/Elementary school age children MUST be accompanied by a parent. Parents will be required to provide their First and Last Name, their cell phone #, and the First and Last Name of their middle/elementary age child(ren). All middle/elementary age children will receive a color wrist band upon entry and must wear it for the entirely of the game. **Parents are expected to supervise their middle/elementary school age children for the entire game.
3. No entry into the stadium at the start of the 3rd quarter. Madison security staff will stop entry of all guests/fans at the start of the 3rd quarter. Once fans exit, they will NOT be able to re-enter the stadium.

a. Online Tickets: Use the link HERE to purchase tickets ahead of time. Adult tickets ($7) available for purchase @ 8am, Friday October 24th. Student tickets ($5) available for purchase @ 1pm, Friday October 24th. **Online ticket sales will be the fastest method of entry.
b. Box Office Tickets: Tickets will be available for sale at the Box Office. Cash and Credit Cards are accepted. **No Apple Pay, Venmo, etc electronic payment methods accepted at the Box Office.

- Human Services Resource Guide (HSRG) - Fairfax County, Virginia: This link provides a search engine for any Human Service resource needs in the county based on categories such as food, housing, parenting concerns, etc.
- Common Help Virginia: On this website, you may see if you are eligible for government benefits such as Cash Assistance (TANF), Child Care Assistance, Energy Assistance, Food Assistance (SNAP), or Health Care Coverage.
- Food For Others: Location: 2938 Prosperity Avenue, Fairfax, VA 22031. (703) 207-9173 Hours: M - F, 9:30am - 5pm or To donate, please drive up to the second loading dock #2 and wait for a Food for Others representative to assist you.
- Free and Reduced-Price Meals: Families can apply for free and reduced-price meal benefits anytime during the school year. If a family’s income changes at any point, they may become newly eligible according to federal income guidelines and can apply immediately. This includes income interruptions caused by furloughs, layoffs, or job losses. Once approved, benefits remain valid for the rest of the school year and for up to 30 school days into the following school year, even if the family’s income changes again.
- FCPS Family Resource Center provides families access to information, resources and training related to the education of students with learning challenges, special needs and disabilities. If your student was unable to participate in the recent school picture days, or wants to retake their photo, retakes are scheduled for December 4.
At the end of each month, we go through the lost and found to search for item names. If they have names, we email the student and parent. We then donate any unclaimed lost and found items, such as clothes, lunch boxes, water bottles, etc., that don't have names. Please make sure your student checks the lost and found in the cafeteria regularly for any lost items. Thank you.
