Library News
End of Quarter Book Checkout
First quarter is almost over already! While teachers are busy getting grades together, students will have a 4-day weekend. What better way to spend it than reading a book! Or, if you’re traveling, you could listen to something together.
Have your student check in with us if they are interested in an audiobook. We have 100s of titles available. We’ve got Playaways, which are standalone devices, and eAudiobooks through MackinVia, which can be accessed either on a computer or a phone.
Lunches in the Library
Speaking of phones, we’ve noticed that fewer students are joining us for lunch since they can’t access their phones while they’re here. But spread the word, we have other fun things to do here. We have games and puzzles they can enjoy in our large sunny space.
Science Fair and National History Day
Both of these long-term projects are getting their start with research lessons in the library. We love watching the progression from an idea to a completed project and helping students along the way. We are available for research help after school and sometimes during FLEX. Students can use Securly to write a pass for a consultation with a librarian, or look for FLEX opportunities for guidance on their research.
Bond Referendums Support Communities
The building and renovation of Fairfax County public schools is not funded through the division’s annual operating budget. Voter-approved bonds allow payment for these projects over time. A $460 million bond referendum is on the November ballot. Read more about the 2025 Bond Referendum. Learn more about registering to vote. Make a plan to vote by Tuesday, November 4.
When Should Your Child Stay Home?
Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.
Help your student succeed by encouraging them to miss as few days as possible. However, do make sure your student stays home if they are sick. So when should your child stay home? Visit the FCPS website for helpful ideas regarding absences and how to work with your child and our school.
If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify our school and your child’s [teacher or teachers] so that assistance can be provided if needed. Keep an open line of communication with our public health nurse. Call the school as soon as you know your child will be absent and tell school staff why and for how long.
