Principal’s Message to Families

Dear Ravensworth Family,

This week the students in our Go to Green Club kicked off our schoolwide recycling program.  These students and club sponsors, Ms. Blend and Ms. Fortenberry, are leading our school in the FCPS portrait of a graduate skills by being global & ethical citizens. Some of our 5th grade students engaged in learning with the SphereO Coding program, provided by the Air & Space STEM Outreach partnership program. These fifth graders coded their robots to follow a student created path.  It is not surprising that one group of students programmed their robot to follow a path that was “6 – 7”. 😊

Big thank you to Amy Heiman, our amazing Assistant Principal, who organized and led the Family Life Education Parent Information Night last Monday evening.  We appreciate all the parents who took time out of their busy schedule to attend this meeting.

We look forward to seeing everyone next Friday, October 24th, for our PTA Trunk or Treat!

Shannon Mueck

Ravensworth Interim Principal

Digital Citizenship Week

c

Next week is digital citizenship week. This week promotes a healthy, balanced, and positive approach to media and technology use among young people. To help us celebrate each day, we will have a spirit week next week to help promote our responsibility to stay safe online!

LEAP - Library Equity Access Pass

Did you know that every FCPS student PK-12 has a Fairfax County Public Library card? The LEAP program, now in its 6th year, allows all FCPS students to check out up to 3 library books for up to 6 weeks at a time (print books only). In lieu of presenting a physical library card, students give their names to the public librarian (no student ID needed) to check out their books. A new LEAP button has been added on the Library Resources page on the FCPS website. Click on the LEAP button to learn more.

Boundary Review

Comprehensive Boundary Review Update

FCPS will begin holding October community boundary review meetings on Monday, October 13. The new draft map, Scenario 4, will be shared with the community for feedback at those meetings. It will also be uploaded to the Boundary Explorer Tool shortly before October 13. Community members will then be able to provide feedback in the tool at their convenience.

As a reminder, the community provided feedback on draft scenarios 1-3 in the spring. Scenario 4 continues to build upon the first three scenarios. It is informed by the Superintendent's Boundary Review Advisory Committee, which reviewed community feedback received in the spring to help develop priorities that the consultant used to create Scenario 4. Visit FCPS’ Comprehensive Boundary Review webpage for more information.

SEL Screener

SEL Screener Parent Notification and Updates

The Fall Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener will be administered to students in grades 3 through 12 in October.

Students use the SEL Screener twice a year to share their perspectives on how well their school and community help them develop skills they need to succeed. The screener works by asking questions or presenting statements that students can think about and respond to. This gives students a way to share how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.

After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families without a ParentVUE account. For more information including SEL Screener questions and opt-out information, please visit FCPS’ Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.
