A Note from the Principal

Dear Daniels Run Families,

I hope you have had a wonderful week. As we approach the end of our first grading period, it's hard to believe that we're already concluding the first quarter of the school year. We've thoroughly enjoyed getting to know your children and seeing them settle into their new classes and with their teachers. Please note that on the last day of the first quarter, next Friday, October 31st, we will have an early dismissal, two hours ahead of the usual time. Unfortunately, no additional childcare services will be available on this day.

We would like to express our gratitude to everyone participating in our Dragon Drive, with a special thank you to our amazing PTA for their unwavering support!

On Friday, October 31st, we invite you to join us for a celebratory parade in front of the school at 9:15 a.m. This event will feature Career Day for Kindergarten and Book Character Dress-Up Day for First Grade. Families are welcome to enjoy the parade from the parking lot, which will be closed for safety immediately following student arrival at 9:00 a.m. There is no need to check in at the office for this event.

When helping your child choose a costume, please ensure it does not include masks that cover the face or any attire that might be considered frightening to others. Your cooperation will help make this a fun and inclusive day for everyone.

We look forward to celebrating together and thank you in advance for your support in making this a memorable day for our students.

Warm regards,

Susan Mullen

✅ Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets, which is in the upper right corner of the screen after logging in. Please complete it as soon as possible. We will provide paper forms to families who have not completed the survey in ParentVUE starting Wednesday, November 12.

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important. This year, FCPS expects to receive approximately $4 million in Impact Aid funding. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For more information, visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.

Register for ParentVUE

Learn how to activate your SISParentVUE account, so you can easily submit your survey and have access to other helpful information about your child.

Technical support for using ParentVUE or submitting the survey online is available by submitting a Parent Support Request ticket. Select SISParent in the Application dropdown menu and type “Federal Impact Aid Survey” in the Issue Description section. 🏗️ How Bond Projects Are Selected

Each year, the School Board and FCPS staff members work with the community to develop an updated, five-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for school building and renovation projects. To develop the CIP, the school system assesses changes in expected enrollments, academic programs, and facility conditions to determine priorities for new construction, renovations, and other capital facility projects. The School Board then evaluates the affordability of these school needs against other countywide requirements to determine the bond proposal.

Because of this, while FCPS and the School Board generally try to follow the CIP, changes can be made year-over-year depending on the evolving needs of the school division.

The School Board is committed to protecting the community’s investment in schools and other buildings, which have a combined present value approaching $9 billion. Not only do these facilities wear out over time, but they also become outdated, both technologically and instructionally. FCPS renovates its schools to ensure that students, countywide, have effective and efficient learning environments to thrive and grow.

Trex Challenge

Science Olympiad Team

Daniels Run Elementary is buzzing with excitement as it announces the formation of its very own Science Olympiad team. For those who aren't familiar, Science Olympiad is a national non-profit that gets students excited about science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through fun, hands-on challenges, and academic competitions.

This is a fantastic opportunity for students to dive into STEM outside of the classroom. The team is open to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders who will practice and prepare to compete in various events later this year. Sixth graders are also welcome to join the team, giving them a chance to build their skills and get ready to compete at the middle school level next year.

Students who join the team can expect to practice after school every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:50 PM to 4:50 PM. For more details on how you can get involved and start building, creating, and learning, please email Megan Oris at mloris@fcps.edu.  Practices start soon, so don’t delay!
