On Monday and Wednesday, our team spent time engaged in learning to best support our students. On Monday, our team considered strategies for creating culturally responsive learning environments which connects to our inclusion work. We also reflected on how to incorporate cultural responsiveness into our daily practice through a learner-centered environment. One of the ways you might see this in your child’s classroom is through an organized, flexible, and accessible classroom environment. For example, your child’s classroom is an organized space and there are locations for independent, small group and large group learning.
On Wednesday, our team dug into the ways we can make learning more accessible to students based on their English Language Development proficiency. We learned about different strategies to implement and spent time collaboratively planning to apply a new strategy to an upcoming lesson.

Hate Speech and Racial Slurs
At the October PTA meeting, Abby Ragan, principal will be discussing the recent community notifications about hate speech and racial slurs at Saratoga. Ms. Ragan will provide context to the notifications, discuss how Saratoga staff are responding, and how families can support Saratoga being a safe and inclusive community for each student. Please join the PTA meeting on October 28 at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria to learn more.
Veterans Day
We will be featuring Saratoga military connected family members on the school - wide morning news on November 5, 6, 7, and 10. If you are interested in being featured on the news, please email Terry Vasquez at tlvasquez@fcps.edu by October 17. Each service member will be asked to share the following information:
- Name
- Branch
- Years of Service
- What is one thing you love about being in the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force, or Space Force?
All recordings will take place from 8:50 a.m. - 9:20 a.m. and 4:20 p.m. - 4:50 p.m. from October 20 - October 31.
We invite our military connected families to complete the template (see the URL below) to the Saratoga Connection with a family friendly picture and turn it in to be displayed on our Veteran Wall. Your child may get a template from their homeroom teacher too. All templates are to be turned in to your child’s teacher by October 31. Please know that completed templates will not be returned. Please do not include original pictures.

We are looking forward to honoring Saratoga connected Veterans. We will be hosting Doughnuts with Dependents on November 7 from 8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. All military connected families are invited to join us for doughnuts with their Saratoga student(s). A parade will follow on at 9:30 AM for any veteran who is interested in participating.
 It's time to start creating your Reflections masterpiece!
Saratoga PTA is hosting the Reflections program, which provides opportunities for recognition and access to the arts which boosts student confidence and success in the arts and in life.Each year, hundreds of thousands of students in pre-K through grade 12 create original works of art in response to a student-created theme, "I belong"
Students can submit one entry in six different categories. Entry forms and rules are available online or in the school office & library. Saratoga Student entries are due November 12.

📍 October Community Boundary Review MeetingsFCPS’ October community boundary review meetings will begin on Monday, October 13. Each of the 12 meetings will focus on two pyramids. Our area will be covered at the meeting on Friday, October 24, 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Lewis High School, (Edison and Lewis Pyramids) in person or virtual. Register by clicking “in person” or “virtual,” based on how you would like to participate.
At the meeting, the consultant will present the latest draft boundary map (Scenario 4) and potential changes specific to our pyramid and the Edison Pyramid. Participants will also be invited to ask questions.
If you are unable to attend the meeting for our pyramid, you are welcome to attend any meeting that is convenient. View the full list of October boundary meetings.

💻 All Families Opted in to Lightspeed Student Online Activity ReportFCPS provides families with a free service that allows parents and caregivers a way to stay informed about their child's online activity on any FCPS device. Starting Sunday, October 12, all parents and guardians who have access to student records in SIS ParentVUE will be automatically enrolled to receive a weekly Lightspeed Student Online Activity Report.
This report provides a summary of the websites your child visited during the previous week and is delivered every Sunday to your email directly from Lightspeed, our internet content filter.
Each weekly report also includes a link to register for the Lightspeed Parent Portal, which provides more detailed browsing information. This portal also gives you the ability to pause internet access on your child’s FCPS laptop during non-school hours, such as dinner or bedtime.

RINCÓN DE LOS DIRECTORES
El lunes y el miércoles, nuestro equipo dedicó tiempo a aprender para brindar el mejor apoyo a nuestros estudiantes. El lunes, analizamos estrategias para crear entornos de aprendizaje culturalmente receptivos y conectarlos con nuestro trabajo de inclusión. También reflexionamos sobre cómo incorporar la receptividad cultural en nuestra práctica diaria mediante un entorno centrado en el alumno. Una de las maneras en que podría ver esto en el aula de su hijo es mediante un entorno organizado, flexible y accesible. Por ejemplo, el aula de su hijo es un espacio organizado con espacios para el aprendizaje independiente, en grupos pequeños y en grupos grandes.
El miércoles, nuestro equipo profundizó en cómo podemos hacer que el aprendizaje sea más accesible para los estudiantes según su nivel de inglés. Aprendimos sobre diferentes estrategias para implementar y dedicamos tiempo a planificar colaborativamente la aplicación de una nueva estrategia en una próxima lección.

Discurso de Odio e Insultos Raciales
En la reunión de octubre de la PTA, la directora, Abby Ragan, hablará sobre las recientes notificaciones comunitarias sobre discurso de odio e insultos raciales en Saratoga. La Sra. Ragan contextualizará las notificaciones, explicará cómo está respondiendo el personal de Saratoga y cómo las familias pueden apoyar a Saratoga para que sea una comunidad segura e inclusiva para cada estudiante. Día de los Veteranos
Presentaremos a familiares de militares de Saratoga en las noticias matutinas los días 5, 6, 7 y 10 de noviembre. Si le interesa aparecer en las noticias, envíe un correo electrónico a Terry Vasquez a tlvasquez@fcps.edu antes del 17 de octubre. Se le pedirá a cada militar que comparta la siguiente información:
- Nombre
- Rama
- Años de servicio
- ¿Qué es lo que más le gusta de estar en el Ejército, la Marina, la Guardia Costera, la Fuerza Aérea o la Fuerza Espacial?

La Asociación de Padres y Maestros de Saratoga (PTA) organiza el programa Reflexiones, que ofrece oportunidades de reconocimiento y acceso a las artes, lo que impulsa la confianza y el éxito de los estudiantes tanto en las artes como en la vida. Cada año, cientos de miles de estudiantes, desde preescolar hasta 12.º grado, crean obras de arte originales en respuesta a un tema creado por ellos mismos: "Pertenezco".
Los estudiantes pueden enviar una obra en seis categorías diferentes. Los formularios de inscripción y las reglas están disponibles en línea o en la secretaría y biblioteca de la escuela. La fecha límite para las inscripciones de los estudiantes de Saratoga es el 12 de noviembre.

📍 Reuniones de Revisión de Límites Comunitarios de Octubre
Las reuniones de revisión de límites comunitarios de FCPS de octubre comenzarán el lunes 13 de octubre. Cada una de las 12 reuniones se centrará en dos pirámides. Nuestra área se abordará en la reunión del viernes 24 de octubre, de 6:30 p. m. a 8 p. m., en la Escuela Preparatoria Lewis (Pirámides Edison y Lewis), de forma presencial o virtual. Inscríbase haciendo clic en "presencial" o "virtual", según cómo desee participar.
En la reunión, el consultor presentará el último borrador del mapa de límites (Escenario 4) y los posibles cambios específicos para nuestra pirámide y la Pirámide Edison. Los participantes también estarán invitados a hacer preguntas.
Si no puede asistir a la reunión de nuestra pirámide, puede asistir a cualquier reunión que le resulte conveniente. Consulte la lista completa de reuniones de límites de octubre.

💻 Todas las familias se suscribieron al Informe de Actividad en Línea de Lightspeed para Estudiantes
FCPS ofrece a las familias un servicio gratuito que permite a los padres y tutores mantenerse informados sobre la actividad en línea de sus hijos en cualquier dispositivo de FCPS. A partir del domingo 12 de octubre, todos los padres y tutores que tengan acceso a los registros estudiantiles en SIS ParentVUE se inscribirán automáticamente para recibir semanalmente el Informe de Actividad en Línea de Lightspeed para Estudiantes.
Este informe ofrece un resumen de los sitios web que su hijo visitó la semana anterior y se envía todos los domingos a su correo electrónico directamente desde Lightspeed, nuestro filtro de contenido de internet.
Cada informe semanal también incluye un enlace para registrarse en el Portal para Padres de Lightspeed, que proporciona información más detallada sobre la navegación. Este portal también les permite pausar el acceso a internet en la computadora portátil de FCPS de su hijo durante horas no escolares, como la cena o la hora de dormir.
