Measures of Academic Progress Math Assessment (MAP)

Fairfax County Public Schools utilizes the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Math assessment as a screening tool. This evaluation serves as a screening and growth monitoring tool to assist educators in identifying students’ strengths and areas requiring additional support. Students from grade 1 through Algebra 2 have recently completed the assessment. Scores will be accessible soon via SIS ParentVUE.

Your child's score is compared to a large group of students from across the country in the same grade. This comparison is shown as a percentile.

The MAP Growth test is computer-adaptive, meaning the test adjusts in real-time based on the student's responses. If a question is answered correctly, the subsequent question will increase in difficulty; if answered incorrectly, the next question will be easier.

Results are reported as a RIT score (scale score), which provides insight into the specific concepts and skills demonstrated during the assessment. It is important to note that a RIT score may not indicate comprehensive mastery of all content from previous grades or courses.

Additional information will be provided following the second assessment. Multiple administrations enable the measurement of student growth over time, allowing educators and families to monitor progress throughout the year and across multiple years.
