Happy Friday, families!

It's been a wonderful week at CES!

Students are engaged in literacy instruction around characters. They are also working hard building their writing skills to form complete sentences using word parts they know, writing paragraphs with a topic sentence and related ideas, or writing multi-paragraph essays using text evidence from passages to defend their ideas.

Our students are also enjoying the fall weather and time to learn in outdoor spaces. Check out some of this week's pictures on ways students engaged with some green learning this week.

Next week we will have a digital citizenship spirit week! Learn more in the photo below!

As a reminder, Monday is a holiday for students and staff. Happy Diwali to all who celebrate 😊 Have a wonderful weekend and we'll see you all on Tuesday!

Veteran's Day Lunch

On Monday, November 10th, 2025 Centreville Elementary School would like to continue our tradition of honoring veterans with a special event at our school for Veterans Day.  We will have a luncheon prepared in your honor that you will be able to enjoy with your student(s) at CES.  Any relatives of our CES students who are veterans are welcome to join us in our event.

We also would like to invite you to read to students in classrooms around our building.  This is a great opportunity for our students to learn about how you have served and to show their appreciation for your service.  If interested, veterans may choose between two time slots to be a guest reader in several classrooms around the school. Lunch for all guest readers and their children will be provided from 12:15pm - 1:15pm.

Choice 1 will be 10:45am - 12:15pm reading in classrooms

Choice 2 will be 1:15pm – 2:45pm reading in classrooms.

Thank you so much for your service.  We hope many veterans will be able to attend this special event at CES. If you are interested, please sign up using the form below.

National School Lunch Week

This week is National School Lunch Week, which promotes the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom. View menus for your child’s school to help you plan for the week ahead.

Did you know that families can apply for free and reduced-price meal benefits anytime during the school year?

If a family’s income changes at any point, they may become newly eligible according to federal income guidelines and can apply immediately. This includes income interruptions caused by furloughs, layoffs, or job losses. Once approved, benefits remain valid for the rest of the school year and for up to 30 school days into the following school year, even if the family’s income changes again. Read Superintendent Reid's October 1 letter regarding other resources available to families impacted by the government shutdown.

sick

When Should Your Child Stay Home?

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.

Help your student succeed by encouraging them to miss as few days as possible. However, do make sure your student stays home if they are sick. So when should your child stay home? Visit the FCPS website for helpful ideas regarding absences and how to work with your child and our school.

If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify our school and your child’s teacher so that assistance can be provided if needed. Keep an open line of communication with our public health nurse. Call the school as soon as you know your child will be absent and tell school staff why and for how long.
