Sunday, October 12, is Ombuds Day. Office of the Ombuds staff engage with families, students, and staff to offer resources, assist in settling conflicts, and raise concerns to improve the experience of each and every member of the FCPS community. They work as an independent confidential resource to help get answers to questions, resolve concerns, and hear complaints regarding FCPS matters.
The ombuds is available to:
- Share strategies for parents to improve communication with, and between, school and home.
- Help resolve disagreements between parents and schools or disagreements involving employees in the workplace.
- Provide ideas to foster parent participation in Individual Education Plan (IEP) and 504 Plan meetings.
Ombuds staff do not change or make decisions, policies, or regulations; take sides; or provide legal advice.
Anyone with concerns, questions, or complaints to share with the Office of the Ombuds may call 571-423-4014, email ombuds@fcps.edu, or visit their webpage, where you may Submit a Question.

No Cost Meals Available for Students on October 13 at Select Schools
FCPS will be offering lunch and a snack at no cost to children aged 18 and under on Monday, October 13, at participating schools. As a reminder, all FCPS schools will be closed for students on October 13 in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day. View a list of school sites that will be providing meals for children on October 13.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Lunch and a snack will be served together from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Meals must be eaten on site at participating schools.
- Enrichment activities will be available for children. Participation is encouraged but not required.
- Only children 18 and under may receive meals.
- Each child may receive one lunch and one snack.
We are proud to support our students’ health and well-being, even on days when school is not in session. We hope that many of our families will take advantage of this opportunity. If you have questions, please contact the Office of Food and Nutrition Services at 703-813-4800.

Wednesday October 15, from on 9:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. Edison Academy will host our Career Experience Fair for Edison Academy students only! This event will host over 20 employers in various fields for students to explore!

Wednesday, October 29, Electrical Construction & Engineering will host their annual Haunted House. The event is open to the community from 4pm-9pm with a cost of just $1! For the evening event, students MUST be accompanied by an adult.

Edison Academy Staff Recognized for Impact
Wednesday night we celebrated well deserved award acceptances of two beloved academy teachers as well as the safety and security staff at Edison. They were selected for a Fairfax County Public Schools Individual Impact Award in one of four categories.
Congratulations to Ms. Irene Hall, our Cosmetology teacher, on her Impact in Student Achievement and Success Award.

This honor recognizes and celebrates their commitment to serve students in FCPS with the utmost dedication and professionalism. We are incredibly lucky to have both teachers at Edison Academy, constantly facilitating exceptional student achievements and building meaningful community relationships. Metro Washington Airport Authority Expo
Our students from Automotive Collision and Technology, Electrical Construction, HVAC-R, and Veterinary Science got an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at how an airport is run like a small city! At the Metro Washington Airport Authority Expo, they were able to explore unexpected jobs and meet experts from operations to emergency services. Now they are thinking about a career that really takes off! ✈️
George Mason University
Teachers for Tomorrow students went to George Mason University School of Education for an interactive and engaging event. They learned about opportunities at the school, toured the campus, and networked with other students in the area.
Around the Academy
Automotive Technology and Automotive Collision level 1 students have passed their safety tests and working in the labs.
Cosmetology Level 2 students taking clients in the Eagle Salon
Cyber/IT- Exploring IT students are working on building computers
Electrical Construction and Engineering level 2 and 3 students are fully emersed in building the annual haunted house.
Criminal Justice students are ready for their trip to Hershey Park for the scarefest after their tour of the Pennsylvania State Police Academy. Stay tuned for more images of their adventure
