3, 2, 1, Blast Off! Today we participated in Rocket Day which taught our students about science and engineering. Our 5th graders launched baking soda and vinegar bottle rockets while our school cheered them on. This event was supported by our Specialist Team and was coordinated by our STEAM teacher, Ms. Bousbouras. Our students had the opportunity to learn from a NASA employee! Thank you to our PTA who supported a delicious popsicle treat.
We hope your child enjoyed Rocket Day as much as we did and gained some knowledge about chemical reactions.

📚 Uncovering Characters in Language Arts 📚
Benchmark Unit 2 in Language Arts is about why characters matter. Students in K-5 will be learning about different characters, and how they shape stories and face challenges. Grade six students will learn about how characters are changed and inspired by others.
Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:
- Question: How does the way you act change the way people think about you?
- Activity: Pretend you are a talk show host and interview your child as if they are the main character of their favorite book.
At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.
October 13 Lunch and Snack Available
October 13 is a Teacher Workday and both lunch and snack will be served at Saratoga from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in our serving lines. Please note the following important guidelines from the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE):
- Meals must be eaten on site.
- Enrichment Activities will be provided for anyone who would like to participate.
- Meals may be provided only to those 18 years old and under.
- Only 1 lunch and 1 snack may be provided per child
Outstanding Employee Nominations

 Cars in the Bus Loop
We all share the common goal of a safe arrival and dismissal. There have been an increased number of cars who are entering the bus loop at arrival and dismissal, the bus loop is closed to cars from 8:50 a.m. - 9:20 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. - 4:20 p.m since students are actively using this area. Please do not use the bus loop exit for U-turns, this is a safety hazard. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in making our arrival and dismissal times safe and smooth for all our children.

RINCÓN DE LOS DIRECTORES
¡3, 2, 1, despeguen! Hoy participamos en el Día del Cohete, donde los estudiantes aprendieron sobre ciencia e ingeniería. Nuestros alumnos de 5.º grado lanzaron cohetes con bicarbonato de sodio y vinagre mientras nuestra escuela los animaba. Este evento contó con el apoyo de nuestro Equipo de Especialistas y fue coordinado por nuestra maestra de STEAM, la Sra. Bousbouras. ¡Nuestros alumnos tuvieron la oportunidad de aprender de un astronauta! Gracias a nuestra Asociación de Padres y Maestros (PTA), que donó una deliciosa paleta helada.
Esperamos que su hijo haya disfrutado del Día del Cohete tanto como nosotros y haya adquirido conocimientos sobre reacciones químicas.

📚 Descubriendo Personajes en Lengua y Literatura 📚
La Unidad 2 de Benchmark en Lengua y Literatura trata sobre la importancia de los personajes. Los estudiantes de K-5 aprenderán sobre diferentes personajes y cómo dan forma a las historias y enfrentan desafíos. Los estudiantes de sexto grado aprenderán cómo los personajes se transforman e inspiran en otros.
Conecta con el aprendizaje de tu hijo en la escuela con estas divertidas preguntas y actividades prácticas en casa:
Pregunta: ¿Cómo influye tu forma de actuar en la percepción que la gente tiene de ti?
Actividad: Imagina que eres el presentador de un programa de entrevistas y entrevista a tu hijo como si fuera el protagonista de su libro favorito.
Al final de la unidad, tu hijo se llevará a casa la revista de la unidad. La revista incluye un calendario de actividades con divertidas maneras de ayudar a los estudiantes a profundizar en lo que están aprendiendo en cada grado. También puedes encontrar información sobre cómo apoyar la lectura de tu hijo en casa en el sitio web de Benchmark Families.
Almuerzo y refrigerio disponibles el 13 de octubre
El 13 de octubre es un día de trabajo para maestros y se servirán almuerzos y refrigerios en Saratoga de 9:00 a. m. a 1:00 p. m. en nuestras líneas de servicio. Tenga en cuenta las siguientes pautas importantes del Departamento de Educación de Virginia (VDOE):
- Las comidas deben consumirse en el lugar.
- Se ofrecerán actividades de enriquecimiento para todos los que deseen participar.
- Las comidas solo se pueden proporcionar a menores de 18 años.
- Solo se puede proporcionar un almuerzo y un refrigerio por niño.

Vehículos en la zona de autobuses
Compartimos el objetivo común de una llegada y salida seguras. Se ha observado un aumento en el número de vehículos que entran en la zona de autobuses durante la llegada y la salida. Esta zona está cerrada al tráfico de 8:50 a. m. a 9:20 a. m. y de 3:45 p. m. a 4:20 p. m., ya que los estudiantes la utilizan activamente. Por favor, no utilice la salida de la zona de autobuses para dar vuelta en U, ya que esto representa un riesgo para la seguridad. Gracias por su comprensión y cooperación para que la llegada y la salida sean seguras y sin contratiempos para todos nuestros niños.
