Mason District Community,
FCPS staff hosted a community meeting on Monday, October 6th to update the Falls Church community on the status of the Falls Church High School renovations. The presentation included updates about the project and details about the upcoming renovations to the school athletic fields.
Concerns were raised regarding the usage loss of the athletic fields for all spring sports programs. To that end, the Superintendent and staff are clear about the impact to the school and its programs and have articulated plans to make the community as whole as possible in the following ways:
- find consistent locations for practices and ‘home’ games for each sport;
- provide transportation for student athletes to practices and games;
- provide transportation for student spectators to support the teams such as a PEP bus; and,
- address the financial losses to booster clubs due to lack of gate tickets revenue and/or concessions activities.
Details about the project, photos of completed work, and renderings of the new athletic fields are available on the Falls Church High Capital Project webpage. After reviewing this information, please provide feedback to the FCPS Facilities Team (click on "Capital Projects").
Phases 1 & 2 - Complete
Phases 1 and 2 of the building renovation/addition are complete and include many new and updated spaces for our students and staff.
Phase 3 - In Progress
Phase 3 is currently under construction and is the final building phase of the project. The majority of this phase is expected to be completed in the spring of 2026, with the performing arts wing scheduled to be fully complete in the summer of 2026.
Athletic Fields Complex
The scope of work involved with the renovations to the FCHS athletic fields complex will take approximately nine months to complete starting in January 2026. Due to the construction activities across all areas of the athletic complex and to ensure safety of all students, staff, and community members, the entire athletic area will be closed off during this time.
Athletic fields at FCHS will be unavailable for the 2026 spring athletic season. FCPS Central Office staff is working with school leadership, athletic staff, and individual teams to identify alternate practice and game venues and transportation needs to ensure students can continue their seasons off campus.
Feedback
An opportunity for providing feedback was announced at the October 6th meeting. The online feedback form, also located on the project's homepage, will remain open until October 20th.
