School Picture Day is October 24

Fall Picture Day

Date: Friday, October 24

Orders placed online

  • Parent/guardians will receive a camera pass via email. This can either be printed or texted to the student and brought to picture day. The photographer will photograph the printed camera pass along with the student.
  • If a student is not able to print their camera pass, that is not a problem. We will match up the student to their order manually in the production process.

Orders placed with the flyer

  • Parent may order from the flyer up until 24 hours after picture day. After 24 hours, the online ordering access may close.

When pictures are returned to school, all students that purchased pictures will receive their prepaid package. Any student that was photographed but did not order a package, will receive a proof of their picture that was taken on picture day. All proof packages offer parents a second opportunity to order prints. All orders are subject to shipping and handling costs of up to $8.50 and will be shipped directly to home.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day

Indigenous People's Day

Monday, October 13, is a student holiday and staff development day for Indigenous Peoples' Day. See the complete school year calendar.

On the second Monday of October and the month of November, people all over the United States celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day and Native American Heritage Month. Students deserve meaningful, sustained opportunities to learn about the diverse perspectives, experiences, and contributions of Indigenous people (globally) year-round, and these celebrations are an opportunity to honor these important stories.

National School Lunch Week: October 13 - 17

National School Lunch Week (NSLW) is an annual celebration from October 13 to October 17, 2025, dedicated to recognizing the vital role that school meals play in nourishing students across the country. The theme this year is “Taste the World: Your School Lunch Passport” to inspire curiosity, cultural appreciation, and adventure through food.

President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week in 1962 to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a student’s life and the impact it has on students inside and outside of the classroom. Beyond just food, NSLW fosters awareness about the importance of nutritious school meals in supporting student health, academic success, and overall

🏗️ FCPS Buildings Benefit All Community Members

In addition to our students and teachers, we estimate millions of visits by students and community members to Fairfax County schools through more than 500,000 events. Most of the public meeting and recreational facilities available in the county are FCPS facilities.

FCPS works with the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services and with the Fairfax County Park Authority to ensure that school facilities and athletic fields are available to the public after school hours.

The 2025 Bond Referendum will be on the ballot in November. Vote on Tuesday, November 4. Learn more about registering to vote and make a voting plan.

💻 All Families Opted in to Lightspeed Student Online Activity Report

FCPS provides families with a free service that allows parents and caregivers a way to stay informed about their child's online activity on any FCPS device. Starting Sunday, October 12, all parents and caregivers who have access to student records in SIS ParentVUE will be automatically enrolled to receive a weekly Lightspeed Student Online Activity Report.

This report provides a summary of the websites your child visited during the previous week and is delivered every Sunday to your email directly from Lightspeed, our internet content filter.

Each weekly report also includes a link to register for the Lightspeed Parent Portal, which provides more detailed browsing information. This portal also gives you the ability to pause internet access on your child’s FCPS laptop during non-school hours, such as dinner or bedtime.

Visit the Lightspeed Parent Report page for more information and answers to frequently asked questions.

Ombuds Day

Office of the Ombuds staff engage with families, students, and staff to offer resources, assist in settling conflicts, and raise concerns to improve the experience of each and every member of the FCPS community.
