🏆 Academic Excellence: FCPS Outperforms State and Global SAT Averages

Fairfax County Public School students continued to show the power and promise of public education by surpassing state and global averages on the SAT — an exam taken by high schoolers across the nation and around the world.

The Class of 2025 Fairfax County SAT average (1183) was higher than the Virginia total score average (1112) and the global total score average (1029). Additionally, Fairfax County performance for the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing subtest (596) and Mathematics subtest (587) is higher than these subtest averages across Virginia and worldwide. This is true for all students and for each reporting group.

These SAT scores are another data point that highlights the impact our exceptional team has on our incredible students! Learn more about how FCPS students performed on SATs.

Dr. Reid Reflects: A Shout Out for Community Relations

Angie and Gracie with their award

Pillar B of the FCPS Strategic Plan emphasizes building trusting partnerships with parents. The small but mighty Office of Community Relations embodies that spirit each day.

Two years ago, the staff of Community Relations brought to life the FCPS Summer Extravaganza, with the support of employees from several FCPS offices. This year — with the continued leadership of Director Angie Aldave and Intercultural Engagement Manager Gracie Mendez — the day of fun and engaging experiences for families grew.

The event continued its original intent to encourage learning over the summer and was supported by numerous departments across the division and county. The event has also been supported by Educate Fairfax

In recognition of their work, Angie and Gracie recently accepted Celebrate Fairfax’s Event of the Year Award. Read more in Dr. Reid’s latest Weekly Reflections.

National Coaches Day, celebrated annually on October 6, recognizes and honors the dedicated coaches who inspire, guide, and mentor students on and off the court.

One of our outstanding FCPS coaches is Doug Craig, who leads the Woodson High School boys varsity basketball team. Last school year, Doug was named the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Class 6 All-State Basketball Coach of the Year — a testament to his commitment to excellence and his impact on students. 📃 Reminder to Review Collective Bargaining Agreements

The Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) between FCPS and the Fairfax Education Unions (FEU) Licensed Instructional and Operational units took effect July 1, 2025. These agreements establish the terms and conditions of employment for all employees represented by FEU.

Highlights include negotiated salary increases over the next three years (including a 6% market scale adjustment in July 2025), protected planning time for teachers, clearer guidelines for instructional assistants, limits on mandatory meetings, and an automated grievance process in StaffConnect.

All program managers and employees are encouraged to review the CBAs, as they cover important topics such as salary, the workday, leave, grievance procedures, safety, and union rights. More information about the Collective Bargaining Agreements is available on Atlas.
