We had a great time at the Stallion Carnival last Friday! Thank you to our PTA for sponsoring this event that allows us to spend time together and have fun. We appreciate all of the parent and staff volunteers: Without your support, the Stallion Carnival would not be possible.
We are excited to share that Saratoga will be participating in Rocket Day on October 9! Our 5th grade students will be building rockets and launching them on Thursday, October 9 in front of our school. Each grade level will be participating in this schoolwide launch, including creating posters, singing a rocket song, or playing a rocket themed game. It is sure to be an out of this world experience!
Please save the date for our upcoming Thanksgiving Lunch on November 20. Your child’s teacher will be sharing the specific time each child will have lunch.

📚 Finishing Up Uncovering Characters in Language Arts 📚Benchmark Unit 2 in Language Arts is coming to a close! Over the last several weeks, our students have learned, read, and written about different characters in stories and their own personal sense of character.
Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:
- Question: How does the way you act change the way you think about yourself?
- Activity: Draw a new cover for a favorite book featuring the main character in a key moment.
At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.
October 13 Lunch and Snack Available
October 13 is a Teacher Workday and both lunch and snack will be served at Saratoga from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in our serving lines. Please note the following important guidelines from the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE):
- Meals must be eaten on site.
- Enrichment Activities will be provided for anyone who would like to participate.
- Meals may be provided only to those 18 years old and under.
- Only 1 lunch and 1 snack may be provided per child
Outstanding Employee Nominations
Each year, FCPS recognizes outstanding employees. Please take a moment to consider which staff have made a difference in your child’s life and nominate them as an Outstanding Employee by clicking on the QR code on the flyer.
 ⏰ Take the School Start Times SurveyFCPS is continuing to explore options for adjusting school start times, with the primary goal of beginning the middle school day at 8 a.m. or later. In order to minimize any costs associated with this change, elementary and high school start times would need to shift as well.
Providing feedback opportunities for the community is a critical part of this effort. Since 2024, FCPS’ consultant has hosted five community forums and administered two surveys. A new School Start Times Survey is open and includes two options that are designed to support student well-being, align with research, balance transportation logistics, and minimize costs.
Staff, parents and caregivers, students, and community members may provide input on the two options by taking the survey. The survey deadline has been extended to Monday, October 6. Find more information on adjusting school start times on the FCPS website.
Cars in the Bus Loop
We all share the common goal of a safe arrival and dismissal. There have been an increased number of cars who are entering the bus loop at arrival and dismissal, the bus loop is closed to cars from 8:50 a.m. - 9:20 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. - 4:20 p.m since students are actively using this area. Please do not use the bus loop exit for U-turns, this is a safety hazard. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in making our arrival and dismissal times safe and smooth for all our children.

RINCÓN DE LOS DIRECTORES
¡Nos lo pasamos genial en el Carnaval de Sementales el viernes pasado! Gracias a la PTA por patrocinar este evento que nos permite pasar tiempo juntos y divertirnos. Agradecemos a todos los padres y al personal voluntario; sin ustedes, el Carnaval de Sementales no sería posible.
Nos complace anunciar que Saratoga participará en el Día del Cohete el 9 de octubre. Nuestros alumnos de 5.º grado construirán cohetes y los lanzarán el jueves 9 de octubre frente a nuestra escuela. Cada grado participará en este lanzamiento escolar, desde la creación de carteles hasta la interpretación de una canción sobre cohetes y un juego con temática de cohetes. ¡Sin duda, será una experiencia única!
Reserve la fecha para nuestro próximo almuerzo de Acción de Gracias el 20 de noviembre. El maestro de su hijo compartirá la hora específica en que cada niño almorzará.

📚 Terminando de Descubrir Personajes en Lengua y Literatura 📚
¡La Unidad 2 de Benchmark en Lengua y Literatura está a punto de terminar! Durante las últimas semanas, nuestros estudiantes han aprendido, leído y escrito sobre diferentes personajes de cuentos y su propio sentido de personalidad.
Conéctate con el aprendizaje de tu hijo/a en la escuela con estas divertidas preguntas y actividades prácticas en casa:
- Pregunta: ¿Cómo influye tu forma de actuar en la forma en que te ves a ti mismo/a?
- Actividad: Dibuja una nueva portada para tu libro favorito que presente al personaje principal en un momento clave.
Al final de la unidad, tu hijo/a se llevará a casa la revista de la unidad. La revista incluye un calendario de actividades con divertidas maneras de ayudar a los estudiantes a profundizar en lo que están aprendiendo en cada grado. También puedes encontrar información sobre cómo apoyar la lectura de tu hijo/a en casa en el sitio web de Benchmark Families.
Almuerzo y refrigerio disponibles el 13 de octubre
El 13 de octubre es un día de trabajo para maestros y se servirán almuerzos y refrigerios en Saratoga de 9:00 a. m. a 1:00 p. m. en nuestras líneas de servicio. Tenga en cuenta las siguientes pautas importantes del Departamento de Educación de Virginia (VDOE):
- Las comidas deben consumirse en el lugar.
- Se ofrecerán actividades de enriquecimiento para todos los que deseen participar.
- Las comidas solo se pueden proporcionar a menores de 18 años.
- Solo se puede proporcionar un almuerzo y un refrigerio por niño.

⏰ Responda la Encuesta sobre el Horario de Inicio de Clases
FCPS continúa explorando opciones para ajustar el horario de inicio de clases, con el objetivo principal de que la jornada escolar en secundaria comience a las 8:00 a. m. o más tarde. Para minimizar los costos asociados con este cambio, también se modificarían los horarios de inicio de clases de primaria y preparatoria.
Brindar oportunidades para que la comunidad comparta sus opiniones es fundamental en este esfuerzo. Desde 2024, el consultor de FCPS ha organizado cinco foros comunitarios y administrado dos encuestas. Una nueva Encuesta sobre el Horario de Inicio de Clases está disponible e incluye dos opciones diseñadas para apoyar el bienestar estudiantil, alinearse con la investigación, equilibrar la logística del transporte y minimizar los costos.

Vehículos en la zona de autobuses
Compartimos el objetivo común de una llegada y salida seguras. Se ha observado un aumento en el número de vehículos que entran en la zona de autobuses durante la llegada y la salida. Esta zona está cerrada al tráfico de 8:50 a. m. a 9:20 a. m. y de 3:45 p. m. a 4:20 p. m., ya que los estudiantes la utilizan activamente. Por favor, no utilice la salida de la zona de autobuses para dar vuelta en U, ya que esto representa un riesgo para la seguridad. Gracias por su comprensión y cooperación para que la llegada y la salida sean seguras y sin contratiempos para todos nuestros niños.
