Paper Grocery Bags- As part of our pledge to reduce single-use plastic in the library, we are asking families to save any paper grocery bags they may have and send them in. These bags will be used for our upcoming Book Fair (first week of December).
Board Books- Do you have board books at home that are ready for a new home? Our library has a special board book collection for specific classes, and we’d love to expand it! If you have gently used board books in good condition, please consider donating them to the SVES Library.
Thank you for supporting our students and library programs!
Sunrise Valley is thrilled to welcome back parenting coach, Mary Wilcox Smith, Wednesday October 8th! This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with other parents, gain new insights, and leave with valuable resources. Childcare will be available if needed. Please RSVP here!

We appreciate your patience as FCPS' new volunteer management system is experiencing some delays - they are very busy processing thousands of new applications. If you are registered with the system, but not yet approved, you will still be allowed to volunteer. You may begin the registration at https://www.fcps.edu/get-involved/volunteer-fcps
REMINDER: If you want to CHAPERONE one of our many fun field trips during this school year, you should register as soon as possible at the above link and designate Level 3 status. You will be required to undergo a background check and fingerprinting. If you have been recently fingerprinted, that will be verified, and you will not need to have it done again. This is for the safety of our students - any information provided in support of volunteering will not be shared outside of FCPS.
If you have any questions or would like guidance with the new application, please contact Adrienne Burton at ajburton@fcps.edu

Below are some resources that might be helpful during the government shut-down for families.
- Families can apply for free and reduced-price meal benefits anytime during the school year. If a family’s income changes at any point, they may become newly eligible according to federal income guidelines and can apply immediately. This includes income interruptions caused by furloughs, layoffs, or job losses. Once approved, benefits remain valid for the rest of the school year and for up to 30 school days into the following school year, even if the family’s income changes again.
- The Fairfax County Government and various local organizations are stepping up to offer a range of assistance, including food, financial, and housing resources. I encourage any of our families who are experiencing financial distress, due to the shutdown or for any reason, to visit the Fairfax County Human Services Resource Guide (HSRG) website.
- Fairfax Connector’s Transit Ridership Incentive Program (TRIP) also provides 50% off fares for low-income residents ages 18 to 65. Learn more about the TRIP program and how to apply.
- Fairfax County residents can take advantage of many of the free offerings the county provides to residents and students. Our incredible public libraries have a wide-selection of books and other activities that families can check out. All FCPS students also have a Library Equity Access Pass through Fairfax County Public Libraries, which allows them to check-out up to 3 items for 6 weeks. And Fairfax County’s many parks and recreation areas are open and free to residents as well.
