Movie Night
Movie Night is TONIGHT, come one come all!! Bring your blankets and chairs.
We had a wonderful time in fellowship, food, and fun with our military families. We appreciate the daily sacrifice of service.
Kiss and Ride
For the safety of our students and to keep our line moving, we are asking parents to stay in your cars as you are dropping off students through Kiss and Ride. It is highly important that all drivers are respectful to our staff and follow their directions.
Afternoon Pick Up
Parents and guardians, please help us by retrieving your student by 3:10 if you need to pick your child up before dismissal.
You may know the PTO as the group that runs events, funds field trips, and fills in the gaps—but the truth is, we’re neighbors and parents just like you, working together to make Silverbrook even brighter.
Right now, we’re launching our Annual Giving Campaign—the one fundraiser that powers it all. We’re asking families to consider giving $30 per child (or whatever you can) to help us meet our classroom goal of $1000 each. If we make it, students will celebrate with “Brighter Than Ever Day"
We also know many families are experiencing financial uncertainty right now, and we want you to know we’re here to support you, too. This year, every donation marks an impact.
Please consider donating today.
And if you’d like to be part of this community of parents, we’d love to have you join the PTO too. Together, we’re building something bright for all our kids.
Outdoor Lunch
Beginning Monday, parents and guardians are invited to enjoy outdoor lunch with your child. Outdoor lunch will run from Monday to Thursday until December 18 (weather permitting). Please use this link to sign up for a time slot. We are asking that you not sign up more than twice a month so that others have an opportunity to enjoy lunch with their child. If your child is in preschool please use this link to sign up for lunch.
Procedures:
- Please sign up for a time using the link above.
- Check in to the office. You MUST have a driver’s license or a Passport.
- After you have checked in, please wait for your child at Door 5.
- Enjoy lunch with your child and use the wipe provided to clean your outdoor space. Please dispose of all trash.
- Walk your child back to the building, entering through Door 5. Please ring the bell. Your child will join their class in the cafeteria.
- Please proceed to the office to sign out.
We are asking that you follow these procedures; please do not follow your child to recess, as this is their time to interact with their peers.
Veterans Day Celebration
In preparation for our annual Veterans Day program, if you are a veteran, active duty, or retired service member and have not sent your picture to Ms. Lanier to be included in our slide deck, please upload your picture here by October 31st. If you have sent your picture in the past, you do not need to resend a picture. We would like to add those we don’t currently have.

Lost and Found Video
This week’s Lost and Found video is up and it is PACKED! Take a look at what’s there and make a plan with your child to pick it up:
https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1FYKmPrgDs/?mibextid=wwXIfr
Don’t forget to label those items! We have PTO volunteers who look through items in search of labels in hopes of sending those items to their owner. Whether you use a fancy printed label or a good old Sharpie, any label is better than none.
If you’re in the market for printed labels, we have teamed up with Mabel’s Labels and will receive 20% of all orders purchased via this link: https://mabelslabels.com/fundraising/support
Thanks for helping us clear the Lost and Found!
⏰ Take the School Start Times SurveyFCPS is continuing to explore options for adjusting school start times, with the primary goal of beginning the middle school day at 8 a.m. or later. In order to minimize any costs associated with this change, elementary and high school start times would need to shift as well.
Providing feedback opportunities for the community is a critical part of this effort. Since 2024, FCPS’ consultant has hosted five community forums and administered two surveys. A new School Start Times Survey is open and includes two options that are designed to support student well-being, align with research, balance transportation logistics, and minimize costs.
Staff, parents and caregivers, students, and community members may provide input on the two options by taking the survey. The survey deadline has been extended to Monday, October 6. Find more information on adjusting school start times on the FCPS website.

📚 Finishing Up Uncovering Characters in Language Arts 📚Benchmark Unit 2 in Language Arts is coming to a close! Over the last several weeks, our students have learned, read, and written about different characters in stories and their own personal sense of character.
Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:
- Question: How does the way you act change the way you think about yourself?
- Activity: Draw a new cover for a favorite book featuring the main character in a key moment.
At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.
📍 Comprehensive Boundary Review Update
FCPS will begin holding October community boundary review meetings on Monday, October 13. The new draft map, Scenario 4, will be shared with the community for feedback at those meetings. It will also be uploaded to the Boundary Explorer Tool shortly before October 13. Community members will then be able to provide feedback in the tool at their convenience.
As a reminder, the community provided feedback on draft scenarios 1-3 in the spring. Scenario 4 continues to build upon the first three scenarios. It is informed by the Superintendent's Boundary Review Advisory Committee, which reviewed community feedback received in the spring to help develop priorities that the consultant used to create Scenario 4.
Visit FCPS’ Comprehensive Boundary Review webpage for more information.
New Automated Lightspeed Student Online Activity Report Coming Soon
Beginning the week of October 12, the weekly Lightspeed Parent Reports will be sent automatically to all parents and caregivers with SIS Records Access. This change streamlines the process, and parents will no longer need to manually sign up for the service.
These reports allow parents and caregivers to stay informed of their child's online activity on FCPS devices. The report's features, including the link to the Parent Portal for more details and the ability to pause internet access during non-school hours, remain the same.
Visit the Lightspeed Parent Report page on the FCPS website for more information and answers to frequently asked questions.
🙋 Every Day Is a Stepping Stone to Success
Attendance is an important life skill that will help your child later in life. It’s a good habit to build now to help them graduate from college on time and routinely report to work on time once they have a career.
Please take a look at the FCPS Calendar. Try to schedule any trips or family events on weekends and school holidays. Every day of learning is a day toward success. Keep in mind that absences add up quickly. Students who are absent 10% of the school year (or just two days per month) are considered “chronically absent.”
When possible, schedule appointments for your child outside of school hours. If your child needs to miss school because of an illness or appointment, you must report the absence to our school. [Add how parents at your school should report absences.]
Visit FCPS’ Attendance webpage for resources on attendance.
Volunteer at Silverbrook
We have 261 parents who have registered to volunteer at Silverbrook!! Thank you…AND approximately 79 are fully active meaning they can come in school at the appointed time. Ms. Lanier and team are working diligently to complete this process as quickly as possible and are working through the FCPS glitches as quickly as possible. Your patience is appreciated.
"We hope everyone in our Jewish community who observed Yom Kippur had a meaningful and manageable fast. In Jewish tradition, Yom Kippur was the day when God decided each person’s fate for the year ahead, so it was a time to reflect, make amends, and ask for forgiveness for anything that happened over the past year. #OurFCPS
