Kings Park Families,
Our first graders were thrilled to welcome over 100 guests to their Morning Meetings last Friday. Families got a chance to join in morning routines, share in classroom activities and see their children’s learning in action. We hope to see many of our Kindergarten families at this Friday’s Morning Meeting event.
We also hope to see many of you arriving in style for Walk, Bike and Roll to School Day tomorrow - Wednesday, October 8th. This fun event promotes healthy habits and helps our students start the day with energy and excitement. Let’s break in those sneakers and fill up the bike rack, Lions!

Every Day Is a Stepping Stone to Success
Attendance is an important life skill that will help your child later in life. It’s a good habit to build now to help them graduate from college on time and routinely report to work on time once they have a career.
Please take a look at the FCPS Calendar. Try to schedule any trips or family events on weekends and school holidays. Every day of learning is a day toward success. Keep in mind that absences add up quickly. Students who are absent 10% of the school year (or just two days per month) are considered “chronically absent.”
When possible, schedule appointments for your child outside of school hours. If your child needs to miss school because of an illness or appointment, you must report the absence to our school in ParentVUE, by calling 703-426-7070 or emailing KingsParkESAttendance@fcps.edu.
Walk, Bike and Roll to School on October 8th
Walk, Bike and Roll to School Day is tomorrow, October 8th! We encourage participants to plan a safe route in advance. A fun way to celebrate this day is to form a “walking train” with other Kings Park friends! Meet at the bike racks (to the left of the main entrance) at 8:20am to celebrate.
Bus transportation will still be available and will follow the same route schedules. Kiss and Ride will still be available.

📚 Finishing Up Our Learning About Life Science in Language Arts 📚
Benchmark Unit 1 in Language Arts is coming to a close! Over the last several weeks, our students have learned, read, and written about the natural world around us.
Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:
- Question: How do living things change? How have you changed since last year? How do you think you’ll change in the next five years?
- Activity: Go outside and try to spot three different plants or animals. Discuss how they get food, water, and shelter.
At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.
Picture Day is Coming
Fall Picture Day at Kings Park will be held on Wednesday, November 5th. Mark your calendar and stay tuned for more information.

Fall Tips for Healthy Living and Family Fun
Shared by FCPS’s Food and Nutrition Services (FNS)
As we welcome the cozy fall season, it's a great time to emphasize staying active and making healthy choices for our students’ well-being. Here are some autumn tips:
-
Enjoy Fall's Harvest: Encourage your child to try seasonal fruits and vegetables. Cooking together can be fun; try making cinnamon apple slices or roasted sweet potatoes!
-
Get Outdoors: Take advantage of the cooler weather by planning activities like hiking, biking, or visiting a pumpkin patch. Enjoying nature promotes fitness and family bonding.
-
Stay Hydrated: Keep hydration a priority! Remind your child to drink water regularly.
-
Practice Mindful Eating: With the holidays coming, help your child eat mindfully by enjoying meals slowly and listening to hunger cues. Cooking together can encourage them to try new foods.
-
Be a Role Model: Show your children healthy eating habits by making nutritious choices and staying active as a family. Your example will inspire them to follow suit.
Let’s make this fall fun and healthy! Wishing you all a joyful and active season!
✨ The 2023-30 Strategic Plan — Goal 5: Leading for Tomorrow’s Innovation
FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan sets five main goals to create positive change in the division. These goals show where we should focus our attention and will help us align our efforts.
Goal 5 focuses on preparing every student for life after graduation with the skills they need to thrive. See how Goal 5 is being put into practice.
Bond Referendum
What Will the 2025 Bond Referendum on the November Ballot Fund?
The $460M bond referendum on the November ballot is expected to fund the next stages of several ongoing projects, as well as others referenced in the Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
The building and renovation of our schools is not funded through the division’s operating budget. Voter-approved bonds allow payment for these projects over time. Read more about the 2025 Bond Referendum. Learn more about registering to vote. Make a plan to vote by Tuesday, November 4.
