September 27 to October 5
Please join us in celebrating our military-connected students by wearing Red, White, & Blue on Wednesday October 1st!
Blue Star Welcome Week is an opportunity to empower military families to thrive as they serve. There are approximately 13,500 military-connected students enrolled in FCPS. Each year, one-third of our military families transition into or out of our district. Blue Star Welcome Week gives schools an opportunity to welcome and connect with their military families. The goal is to create a sense of belonging and ensure that our military families feel celebrated and welcomed into their school communities.
Back to School Night Resources 2025-2026
This year at Back to School Night, we had sessions with our reading, math, and advanced academics coaches. See recordings of their presentations, resources, and videos from our school board members on the Bush Hill website.
We are looking for 2–3 volunteers to help with Picture Day on Monday, October 6th. Shifts are available from 9:15–12:00 or 12:30–3:30. As a thank you for working an entire shift, each volunteer will receive a $25 discount code toward a picture packet.
If you’re available to help, please reach out to Lisa Dial at ldial@fcps.edu
Your support makes a big difference!
Wednesday, October 8th
We encourage students and families to get walk or bike to school. It helps to learn the safety rules of the road, less traffic congestion, a shorter kiss and ride line, safer streets and strong sense of community.
So, get your walking shoes, bikes and helmets ready for the big day! We would love to see you there! We also do a bike train that meets at NewLife Church in the neighborhood and a group ride together. Look for more information as the day gets closer.
If you would like to help, please reach out to Ms. Mulcahy.
Volunteers are needed to help ensure the route is blocked off and safe for the kids to get to the school. The starting point will be the New Life Church on Trin Street. We will need people on Old Rolling Road, Brookland Road and Westchester Street. See the signup here Volunteer Signup!

⏰ K-12 School Start Times SurveyFCPS is continuing to explore options for adjusting school start times, with the primary goal of beginning the middle school day at 8 a.m. or later. In order to minimize any cost for this project, elementary and high school start times would need to shift as well.
Providing feedback opportunities for the community is a critical part of this effort. Since 2024, FCPS’ consultant has hosted five community forums and administered two surveys. A new School Start TImes Survey is open through Tuesday, September 30. It includes two options that are designed to support student well-being, align with research, balance transportation logistics, and minimize costs. Staff, parents and caregivers, students, and community members may provide input on the two options by taking the survey. Find more information about adjusting school start times.
