Mason District Community,
I am excited to report that the School Board unanimously approved my motion to move forward with the next step towards opening a new middle school AAP Center at Poe Middle School.
In the past month, many parents and community members have expressed their enthusiastic support for this long-overdue center to serve the Annandale Pyramid. I have forwarded your questions and comments to the superintendent and her staff for consideration and planning for the upcoming community meetings.
The draft proposal includes the charts below which outline the impacted feeder elementary schools and the proposed changes to the Middle School AAP Center boundaries for the Annandale Pyramid.
The full draft proposal and timeline are available for review.
Many questions were raised regarding phasing for students currently enrolled at an AAP Center. The draft proposal includes a three-year rollout plan.
Next Steps
Two community engagement meetings for all impacted school communities have been scheduled for October. This is an opportunity for the community to hear about the proposal and provide feedback. Hold the dates - additional information is forthcoming.

- Superintendent Recommendation
The Superintendent will present her final recommendation to the School Board in November.
The School Board is expected to vote on the Superintendent's proposal at the December 18, 2025 meeting.
If approved, the new AAP Center at Poe Middle School would open to grade 6 for the 2026-2027 school year.
It is my belief that the benefits to students are exponential. With the establishment of an AAP Center at Poe MS, students will have the opportunity to remain in their community with their friends and parents will not be forced to decide between the pursuit of full-time AAP services for their students or remain connected to their community. The division will more equitably provide access to advanced programming and reduce transportation costs.
I look forward to the next steps in this process and encourage affected families to stay engaged.
