Student Rights and Responsibilities
FCPS’ Student Rights and Responsibilities document (SR&R) explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.
Parents/caregivers should talk to their child(ren) about expectations for this school year. Also, please log in to SIS ParentVUE and sign to acknowledge your review of the SR&R, or sign and return the signature sheet to school by Monday, October 6th.
Volunteer Registration
We encourage all our parents interested in volunteering at school to visit Volunteer FCPS, click “Learn More,” and then “Sign Up.” After you create a profile, you will view an orientation video and complete a volunteer application.
All volunteers must be registered in Volunteer FCPS. This includes individuals who volunteer to chaperone on field trips, work at book fairs, and help out regularly in classrooms, libraries, or cafeterias or who help in any unpaid capacity in the school system. Volunteers who work unsupervised with students will also be required to undergo a background check.
Visit the Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more.
Blue Star Welcome Week is a nationwide initiative to ensure military families feel a sense of belonging to their school communities. Fairfax County Public Schools celebrates Blue Star Welcome Week.
Blue Star Welcome Week empowers military families to thrive as they serve. There are approximately 13,500 military-connected students enrolled in FCPS. Each year, one-third of our military families transition into or out of our district. Blue Star Welcome Week allows schools to welcome and connect with their military families. The goal is to create a sense of belonging and ensure our military families feel celebrated and welcomed into their school communities.
Oak Hill ES appreciates the service and sacrifices of the military members and families in our community!
We will celebrate Blue Star Welcome week with a presentation on the news show this week honoring our military connected students, a display honoring military service members, and a popsicle party with the principals for our military connected students and their families.
This week we are Unlocking our Portrait of a Graduate Power with our very own spirit week! Each day is a new challenge to embrace and celebrate ourselves as communicators, collaborators, creative and critical thinkers, global and ethical citizens and goal directed and resilient individuals.
Thursday, 10/2 - Compassion Day. Do an act of kindness. Friday, 10/3 - Wear Oak Hill Spirit Wear or Blue for Oak Hill POG Power Day and to honor our military connected students.

National Bullying Prevention Month
Bullying in FCPS' Students Rights and Responsibilities is defined as: “Any aggressive and unwanted behavior that is intended to harm, intimidate, or humiliate the victim; involves a real or perceived power imbalance between the aggressor or aggressors and victim; and is repeated over time or causes severe emotional trauma. “Bullying” includes cyberbullying. “Bullying” does not include ordinary teasing, horseplay, argument, or peer conflict.”
For more information on how FCPS handles a bullying situation please visit the FCPS Bullying Prevention and Intervention webpage. Our goal is to ensure all students feel safe and welcome at school. If you have questions and/or concerns about something that is going on at school, please contact the front office so that they can support you and most importantly your student.
Are you loving the recent renovation of our school building? We are, thanks to voters like you!
These beautiful updates were NOT funded through the annual FCPS operating budget. School building construction and renovations are funded by bonds, which are approved by voters!
The $460M bond referendum on the November ballot is expected to fund the next stages of several ongoing projects, as well as others referenced in the Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Voter-approved bonds allow payment for these projects over time. Read more about the 2025 Bond Referendum.

For example, how different colors can be interpreted by students; holidays and how they are celebrated by your family; cultural norms you'd like us to know so we can better understand our students, etc.
Our next parent culture panel will be hosted during the release Wednesday on October 15th from 12:45-1:45pm. School-age childcare will be provided for participants. Questions? Email secondvp@oakhillpta.org.
