wootwoot

A very special thank you to the PTA for brightening our day by taking a Woot Woot wagon full of treats around the building for staff!

Dear Churchill Road Families,

What a beautiful night last Friday for the PTA’s family movie night.  We enjoyed seeing so many of you at the movie.  Thank you to the PTA for organizing this incredible family favorite!

Tomorrow, September 23, school will be closed in honor of Rosh Hashanah.  Next week, we will be celebrating our military connected students and families as part of Blue Star Welcome Week.  We are so grateful for their service.

The next few weeks promise many fun, family oriented activities.  On Friday, October 3, the McLean Revitalization Corporation is hosting a free movie under the stars at Franklin Sherman Elementary School. You can find the information below.  Our Book Fair will take place from October 6 - 10, with a special evening event on October 8. And last but not at all least, our schoolwide field day will be held on Friday, October 17 - volunteers welcomed!

Thank you to all the families who have been practicing safe arrival and dismissal procedures at Kiss and Ride.  We have still heard reports of cars making dangerous u-turns and would like to reiterate the need for putting student safety first.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Pierson-Barr and Mr. Kilpatrick

blue star

Blue Star Welcome Week was created by the non-profit organization Blue Star Families to recognize the 600,000 military families that move to new communities each year. From September 27 - October 5, 2025, this special week raises awareness and builds support for military families across the community.   We will be recognizing our military-connected students throughout the week with special activities.

To all our military families: Thank you for your service and sacrifices. We are honored to have you as part of the Churchill Road community.

Get to Know our ESOL Teachers -
Ms. Sweeney and Mrs. Flanigan

Churchill Road ESL Teachers Ms. Sweeney and Mrs. Flanigan

This is Ms. Sweeney’s 5th year at CRS, and she loves learning about her students' home cultures while working in small groups.  She builds on her students’ strengths to see each develop through the year.  Her goal is to help students grow in confidence in using their English skills. This year, she’s also excited to be working on the International Night committee. If you see Ms. Sweeney, please teach her a greeting in another language!

Mrs. Flanigan is in her first year as an ESOL teacher and her 21st year overall in education. After transitioning from a classroom teacher, she has enjoyed getting to know the students, staff, and community at Churchill Road Elementary. Her favorite part of teaching is building relationships with students and creating a safe environment where they can take risks, learn from their mistakes, and grow in their English language development. As a lifelong learner, Mrs. Flanigan loves to learn, and the students teach her so much!

Field Day Help Needed!!

Our Fall Field Day will be held on Friday, October 17th!   Our field day will use cooperative games as an opportunity to build teamwork and relationships within our classrooms.  We are very excited to be offering 16 different activities.  Another change is we have added a 3rd time slot just for our new Kindergarteners!

Field day will be divided into 3 blocks.   Please see the volunteer times for each grade below. We are in need of parent volunteers to assist at each specific station.

  • Grades 1-3 - 8:25-11:00 AM
  • Kindergarten - 11:00 AM -12:15 PM
  • Grades 4-6 - 12:40-2:45 PM

Responsibilities at your assigned station are to reset the equipment at the station after each group and briefly review rules of the activity.

If you would like to volunteer for Field Day please use the link to sign up!  Thank you very much for your help!  We look forward to a fun and active day!
