Volunteer Registration
We encourage all our parents interested in volunteering at school to visit Volunteer FCPS, click “Learn More,” and then “Sign Up.” After you create a profile, you will view an orientation video and complete a volunteer application.
All volunteers must be registered in Volunteer FCPS. This includes individuals who volunteer to chaperone on field trips, work at book fairs, and help out regularly in classrooms, libraries, or cafeterias or who help in any unpaid capacity in the school system. Volunteers who work unsupervised with students will also be required to undergo a background check.
Visit the Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more.
Picture Day is tomorrow, 9/25. All students will be photographed for the yearbook. You may also order picture packages. Flyers came home on Friday, September 19th with package options and there are extra copies in the office. To pay online, please go to www.Strawbridge.net. Click "Order Pictures" and use the code FM481743. If you are paying with cash or check, please make sure you return the picture envelope tomorrow and have your child give it to their teacher.
Blue Star Welcome Week is a nationwide initiative to ensure military families feel a sense of belonging to their school communities. Fairfax County Public Schools celebrates Blue Star Welcome Week.
Blue Star Welcome Week empowers military families to thrive as they serve. There are approximately 13,500 military-connected students enrolled in FCPS. Each year, one-third of our military families transition into or out of our district. Blue Star Welcome Week allows schools to welcome and connect with their military families. The goal is to create a sense of belonging and ensure our military families feel celebrated and welcomed into their school communities.
Oak Hill ES appreciates the service and sacrifices of the military members and families in our community!
Health Room Volunteers Needed
The Oak Hill Health Room is looking for volunteers to help with Vision and Hearing Screening on October 7th and 8th from 9:00-12:30. Each year we screen every Kindergarten and 3rd grade student. If you can spare a couple of hours to help, it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Oak Hill's School Health Aide, Juliana Rampersad, at jtrampersad@fcps.edu to sign up. Please also start the volunteer registration process if you haven't already.
The Oak Hill Library will be hosting the Scholastic Book Fair from October 4th through October 10th. Volunteers are needed to set-up, use a cash register to enter sales, support students with purchases, and clean-up at the end of the fair.
Please Note: This volunteer opportunity is offered to adults only. There will be other opportunities for students to earn service hours.
Use this Sign-Up Genius to select a day/time that works best for your schedule. Please also start the volunteer registration process if you have not already. Thank you in advance!
Please email Melissa Dolenc (Oak Hill Librarian) at mrdolenc@fcps.edu with any questions.

Take the K-12 School Start Times Survey
FCPS is continuing to explore options for adjusting school start times, with the primary goal of starting the middle school day at 8 a.m. or after. In order to minimize any cost for this project, elementary and high school start times would need to shift as well.
Providing feedback opportunities for the community is a critical part of this effort. Since 2024, FCPS’ consultant has hosted five community forums and administered two surveys. That feedback helped in developing two options for adjusting school start times. The options are designed to support student well-being, align with research, and balance transportation logistics.
We invite you to provide input on the two options by taking a short survey. This voluntary survey will close on Tuesday, September 30. Visit the FCPS website for more information on adjusting school start times.

Community Boundary Review Meeting
As a reminder, FCPS will hold two sets of community boundary review meetings this fall — one in September and another in October. Each set of meetings will focus on two pyramids per meeting.
All September meetings will include an overview of where FCPS is in the comprehensive boundary review process, an update and opportunity for feedback on school start times, how community input is informing the process, and next steps in the boundary review process. The Chantilly pyramid September meeting occurred on September 19th.
The October meeting for our pyramid will be held Tuesday, October 28, 6:30-8 p.m., at Chantilly High School.
Child care for in-person participants and language interpretation/translation for all participants will be available as needed.
Visit the FCPS website for a full list of meeting dates and information about the October meetings.
