We had a busy and fun week of school last week capped off with a pajama day to celebrate reaching a goal for the Armchair Fundraiser. Thank you for all your support!
This Friday is our 2nd Freaky Friday of the year. The theme is silly socks - students and staff are encouraged to wear crazy, silly, or mismatched socks on Friday. This is when we will also celebrate September birthdays for the school. If you haven't received a signup for Freaky Friday celebrations for your child's class, reach out to our Room Parent Coordinator, Ms. Velazquez at actopp@gmail.com.
Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Monday, September 22. Tuesday, September 23 is a holiday for all FCPS students and staff. Schools and offices will be closed.
On Monday, September 29, all students and staff will have their picture taken by Victor O'Neill Studios both individually and as part of their class. These photos will be available for sale and will be included in our yearbook.
Is your 3rd - 6th grade student interested in science or engineering? Do they like building things or learning about STEM subjects? If so, we'd love to have you serve as the head coach for the Lemon Road Science Olympiad team! What is Science Olympiad? A team-based science tournament against other local schools with many different events.
We need a volunteer to serve as head coach or Lemon Road will not be able continue the longstanding tradition of participating in this fun and enriching science competition. At Lemon Road, the head coach is primarily responsible for facilitating our school's participation in the event, including interest meetings, team formation, collection of dues and team payment to VASO, event assignments, answering questions from students and parents, liaising with the state science olympiad organization (VASO), and managing the competition day. Registration for schools is open now, so don't delay. Please contact scienceolympiadlres@gmail.com with interest or questions!
FCPS is working hard to approve all applications for our families to volunteer at Lemon Road, join us on field trips, support in art & library, and visit the school during the day.
At this time, parents that have begun the process in VolunteerFCPS will be permitted to volunteer & chaperone. With the upcoming field trips, please be sure anyone planning to chaperone, visit classes, and/or volunteer have begun this process. Ms. Olsavsky in the office is the Lemon Road point of contact for this process. If you have any questions or want to confirm your position in this process, she can be reached at enolsavsky@fcps.edu.
To initiate this process, begin by clicking here.
Benchmark Unit 1 in Language Arts is about life science. Students in K-5 will be learning about plants, animals, and nature. Sixth grade students will learn about the natural balance of nature.
Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:
- Question: What are some ways we can take care of nature and living things?
- Activity: Pick an animal and act out how it moves or survives in its habitat — see if family members can guess!
At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.
Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Ice Cream Social, came to the September general meeting, contributed to the Armchair Fundraiser, and sent their children to school Friday in pajamas to celebrate reaching our goal! Below are the updates for this week:
- Our 1st movie night of the year is Friday, September 26. Join us on the blacktop with a blanket or chairs to enjoy a night out with the community. The movie will begin when it is dark but set up and concessions will begin around 6:30 PM. Meet other parents and help us by volunteering!
- Last call to register for afterschool enrichment courses for the fall. We have pushed back the start date to give families one more week to sign up. Register here!

FCPS is continuing to explore options for adjusting school start times, with the primary goal of starting the middle school day at 8 a.m. or after. In order to minimize any cost for this project, elementary and high school start times would need to shift as well.
Providing feedback opportunities for the community is a critical part of this effort. Since 2024, FCPS’ consultant has hosted five community forums and administered two surveys. That feedback helped in developing two options for adjusting school start times. The options are designed to support student well-being, align with research, and balance transportation logistics.
We invite you to provide input on the two options by taking a short survey. This voluntary survey will close on Tuesday, September 30th. Visit the FCPS website for more information on adjusting school start times.
As a reminder, FCPS will hold two sets of community boundary review meetings this fall — one in September and another in October. Each set of meetings will focus on two pyramids per meeting.
All September meetings will include an overview of where FCPS is in the comprehensive boundary review process, an update and opportunity for feedback on school start times, how community input is informing the process, and next steps in the boundary review process.
The meeting for our pyramid will be held Saturday, September 27th, 9 to 10 a.m., at Marshall High School (In Person or Virtual). Please register by clicking “in person” or “virtual,” depending on how you would like to participate.
Child care for in-person participants and language interpretation/translation for all participants will be available as needed.
Visit the FCPS website for a full list of meeting dates and information about the October meetings.
