Atoms Athletics Recap

Golf played Edison and Hayfield in a tri-match Wednesday evening at Fort Belvoir. The Atoms played a great match with a team score of 160. However they were just short of the win as Edison and Hayfield scored 158 and 154 respectively as teams to get the win. The Atoms are playing really good golf at the right time as they have their final match Thursday vs Mt. Vernon before the district tournament on Monday, September 29.

Girls Volleyball continued their hot streak of shutouts this week vs Fairfax Home School, Hayfield, and Mount Vernon. The Atoms dismantled Fairfax Home School Monday evening to the tune of 3-0. Tuesday was a match up with Hayfield that saw the Atoms dominate the first two sets over the Hawks. The third set saw the Hawks jump out to an early lead only to see it evaporate as the Atoms stormed back to tie it up at 16. From there it was back and forth before the Atoms put the match away 25-23 to win 3-0. The next night was another home event vs Mt. Vernon. The Atoms looked like they spent some energy the night before as they Majors gave them a match in each set but the Atoms were too much as they ran away and once again won 3-0. The Atoms have won five straight matches 3-0 and look to do it again vs TJ on Thursday.

Boys Volleyball played two matches this week. First was the second game of a doubleheader with Fairfax Home School. The Atoms battled hard throughout ultimately falling 3-2 in five sets. Next up was a trip to Hayfield to take on the Hawks. The Atoms continue to grow and get better with each match but unfortunately were no match for Hawks who sealed the match to the get the district win. The Atoms look to the right the ship as they face TJ on Thursday.

Field Hockey hopped on the bus for a trip to Herndon Monday evening. The Atoms got up 1-0 early in the first half and held that lead for a while before Herndon snuck one by the goalkeeper to tie the score. Unfortunately for the Atoms, the Hornets would add a second one to take the non-district game 2-1. It was a quick turnaround as the Atoms welcomed Lewis to Annandale Tuesday evening. This was a different story as the Atoms were up 5-0 after one quarter and coasted to a 7-0 win over the Lancers. The Atoms look to continue their dominant district run over the last four years as they travel to Justice Thursday evening.

Football welcome district rival Falls Church to campus last night for the annual Beltway Bowl game. The crowd was treated to a competitive game from start to finish. The Atoms got on the board first with a TD pass on the opening play of the game! The Jaguars responded on their first series with a long touchdown run to tie the game at 6. Both teams traded scores back and forth with the Jaguars holding the advantage at halftime. The Atoms cut the game to 6 at 24-18 in the third but that was as close as they would get as the Jaguars were able to hold the Atoms off in the end to get the 44-32 win. The Atoms host Park View Friday evening for Homecoming!

Boys and Girls Cross Country unfortunately had their district meet canceled due to weather and course conditions. The Atoms are running in the Georgetown Prep Invitational today in Maryland.

Atoms Boosters Concession Stand Help

Attention Parents! Volunteers are needed to sell concessions at games throughout the year, starting with fall sports Football and Volleyball. We welcome any and all parents to volunteer but when parents of a particular sport work a game, a portion of concessions sales directly benefit that team. If you are not able to help directly at home games, there are many ways you can get involved with the Atoms Athletics Boosters by attending our monthly meetings or being a team liaison. Thank you for your support for Atom’s Athletics!

For questions about concession stand sign ups, contact Lissette Puna.
