Third graders work together to solve a math problem.
Dear Families,
It has been another great week here at The Villa! We are excited to share that our school’s fundraiser is up and running. Please take a moment to register your child for our Dragons Fun Run and share your child’s page with family and friends! By sharing your child’s page, we can work together to collect donations to support our school.
So far, our community has raised $592 towards our $20,000 goal! See more information below about registration, donation collection, and the date of our big event.
Looking ahead, school will be closed on Tuesday due to Rosh Hashanah. SACC will remain open.
We look forward to connecting with you and your children in the upcoming week. As always, please reach out with any questions!
Warm regards,
Ms. Textoris and Mrs. Burke

September is Attendance Awareness Month!
At Fairfax Villa, we have a school improvement goal around improving our attendance rate. We would like to see our absenteeism rate decrease this year from 12% to 9%.
Here is our Attendance “Tip of the Week!”
-
Establish routines: Set consistent bedtimes and morning routines, including laying out clothes and packing backpacks the night before.
The National Museum of the American Latino observes Hispanic Heritage Month between September 15 and October 15 each year to celebrate the Latino community.
At Fairfax Villa Elementary, one of the ways we will celebrate is by sharing the accomplishments and influence of Latinos in the United States during the month.
This week, let’s learn about Dr. Ellen Ochoa.

|
Dr. Ochoa became the first Latina to go to space in 1993 as she flew aboard the space shuttle Discovery. She later became the Johnson Space Center’s first Latina director, and her journey continues to inspire many others. |
Your voice matters, and Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid wants to hear from you! At FCPS, parents are partners, working with us to set our students up for long-term success at school and in life.
A series of Community Conversations will be held across the school division to discuss current challenges and future opportunities. These events are also a chance for you to share your thoughts and ask questions about FCPS. Events are planned for the following dates from 6 to 8 p.m.:
Locations and registration links will be shared in future issues of FCPS This Week. Child care and interpretation services will be provided. Events are open to all.
