Thank you for all of your generous support of the No Fuss Fundraiser! 🎉 The PTO has shared that we are halfway to our goal.
Next week, our admin team will be dressing up—and Mr. Pannutti will be doused with cafeteria condiments! What a trooper! The class with the highest percentage of donations will earn the honor of covering him.
Currently, Ms. Julio’s class is in the lead with 35% of her class donating. In a very close second is Mrs. Genus’ class, followed by Ms. Workman, Mrs. Balke, and Mrs. LaRow.
Who will take the lead over the weekend? Stay tuned!

Dear Wonderful Navy Community,
I want to thank you for another wonderful week! Our kids are the BEST in FCPS! I am excited to share that we had a blast at the 5k last weekend and raised $10,000 for our drone club! This means that I'll be getting pied in the face on the morning news show next week! Yay for me!
We have a lot going on in our vibrant school community to include our Book Fair, PTO, and Principal Advisory Committee Meetings all this week. During our Advisory meeting, parents had the opportunity to share their glows and grows as school as we celebrate our work and seek feedback for constant improvement.
During the PTO meeting, our wonderful PTO Board members to include: President Wendy Sekal, Lisa Lowery, Treasurer, Kristi Harmon, Secretary, and Carrie Courtillet, Director of Fundraising shared the PTO's mission for their work at Navy. They shared how the donations you provide are supporting Capital Improvements in the school such as: Monitors in the front lobby and cafeteria to showcase what's happening at our wonderful school, new drop downs so first and second grade students can charge their laptops at the school, and all of the wonderful events at the school to provide our students with an amazing elementary experience at Navy! Please take the opportunity to assist the PTO through our No Fuss Fundraiser to ensure we have the funds to continue to move forward through challenging budgetary times in the district! Thanks for Making It Happen!
Have a fabulous weekend!
With gratitude, Your Joyous Admin Team Jason, Kim, and Sarah
 Thank you...
to everyone who participated in, registered for, and came out to run the Race for Asha Jyothi! 🏃♀️💙 In all the years this race has been held, our school had the most registrations ever—with an incredible 202 participants!
Because of your support, Asha Jyothi has generously donated $10,000 to help strengthen STEM programs at Navy. We are so grateful for this partnership and for our amazing community that made it possible!
We're focused on improving student attendance at Navy Elementary. Our efforts include sharing information with our community, reaching out to families, and talking with students about why it's so important to be in school every day.
This week's tip is a simple one: Chronic absenteeism isn't just about missing a lot of school at once. It can also happen when a student misses just a day or two every few weeks. Those missed days add up quickly, so every day truly counts.
Tuesday, November 11, 2025 is a holiday for both students and staff. However, Navy Elementary would like to continue our tradition of honoring our Navy community veterans. We are wondering which day (Monday, November 10th or Wednesday, November 12th) is more convenient for families to attend a breakfast and honor parade. To help us with planning, please answer the question in this Google Form if you or someone in your family is an active duty, retired, or reserve member of our United States military. Please respond by October 3rd. Thank you for your service!

As part of our Hispanic Heritage celebration, our students have been learning about famous Hispanic people, making colorful paper piñatas, and discovering the meaning and importance of Hispanic Heritage. In addition, we were honored to have Hispanic guest speakers, Maricela Rumberg and Diego Ojeda, visit our school to share stories about their countries and cultural traditions. We are looking forward to more surprises we have planned for staff and students!

Benchmark Unit 1 in Language Arts is about life science. Students in K-5 will be learning about plants, animals, and nature. Sixth grade students will learn about the natural balance of nature.
Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:
- Question: What are some ways we can take care of nature and living things?
- Activity: Pick an animal and act out how it moves or survives in its habitat — see if family members can guess!
At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.

We are so grateful for all they do for our students, staff, and community. Please join us in thanking our custodians for the vital role they play in making Navy the wonderful place it is!

The $460M bond referendum on the November ballot is expected to fund the next stages of several ongoing projects, as well as others referenced in the Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
The building and renovation of our schools is not funded through the division’s operating budget. Voter-approved bonds allow payment for these projects over time. Read more about the 2025 Bond Referendum. Learn more about registering to vote. Make a plan to vote by Tuesday, November 4.
FCPS’ Student Rights and Responsibilities document (SR&R) explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.
Parents/caregivers should talk to their child(ren) about expectations for this school year. Also, please log in to SIS ParentVUE and sign to acknowledge your review of the SR&R, or sign and return the signature sheet to your child’s school by Tuesday, September 30.
FCPS is continuing to explore options for adjusting school start times, with the primary goal of beginning the middle school day at 8 a.m. or later. In order to minimize any cost for this project, elementary and high school start times would need to shift as well.
Providing feedback opportunities for the community is a critical part of this effort. Since 2024, FCPS’ consultant has hosted five community forums and administered two surveys. A new School Start TImes Survey is open through Tuesday, September 30. It includes two options that are designed to support student well-being, align with research, balance transportation logistics, and minimize costs. Staff, parents and caregivers, students, and community members may provide input on the two options by taking the survey. Find more information about adjusting school start times.
