Principals' Message

Dear TLES Families,

We can't believe we've already wrapped up week five! As we hit the halfway point of the first quarter, it's a great time to reflect on the incredible learning and special moments we've shared.  This week was no exception, filled with so much discovery and growth!

Our third graders kicked off their ladybug lifecycle unit with such excitement! We were so thrilled to have members from Superintendent Dr. Reid’s team visit Ms. Condro and Ms. Hardy’s classrooms to capture the magic of our students' engagement in these fascinating science lessons. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the hands-on discovery happening right here at our school. Be on the lookout for our students, as the pictures and videos from this lesson will be featured by Dr. Reid in one of her future school board presentations!

Speaking of growth, we were so proud to see so many more students recognized through our ROAR referral system this week. As you may receive a call from Mr. Chiet this school year, we want to make sure you understand what a wonderful process this is! A ROAR Referral is essentially a "positive office referral" where students are recognized for being Respectful, Owning their actions, Advocating for themselves or others, and being Responsible.

The images below capture the sequence that is our ROAR Referral Process.  We hope many of you enjoy this blast from the past - with pictures of some of our current 6th graders in these images taken a few years ago! :)

Please save the date and be on the look out for sign-ups for First Quarter Parent-Teacher conferences from your child's teachers!  We want to ensure that every child's caregiver is able to connect with their child's teacher for a conference.  Conferences may be held at any point, with many teachers choosing the November 3rd as our main conference day.

Thank you for your continued partnership. We are so proud of all the hard work and dedication our students and teachers show every day.

Warmly,

Ben Chiet, Principal

Sarah Buchanan, Assistant Principal

Calendar Reminder - Rosh Hashanah

Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Monday, September 22. That day is an evening-only observance day. Important events will not be held after school.

Tuesday, September 23, is a holiday for all FCPS students and staff. Schools and offices will be closed.

Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year. It is a two-day holiday that marks the beginning of the Jewish High Holy Days, a ten-day period of introspection and repentance that culminates in Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.

Shana Tova, to all those who celebrate!

🌍Multi-Lingual Learner Family Night

We are excited to invite you to a special event to help your child succeed! Your child is a multi-lingual learner, and we want to celebrate and support their incredible language abilities.

When: Wednesday, September 24th at 5:30PM

Where: TLES Cafeteria (Door #3)

This event is for all families of multi-lingual learners in grades K-6. We strongly encourage you to attend to learn how to support your child's literacy and language development at home.

Important details for the evening:

  • Free Laptop & Learning Program: Every multi-lingual learner will receive a laptop to use all year! We will show you how to use a new online program, called Summit K12, that will be a required part of your child's daily homework. Your participation is essential to ensure your child can use this tool successfully.
  • Meet the Teachers: You'll have a chance to meet your child's ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) teacher and learn about the support they receive at school.
  • Dinner & Childcare: We will provide dinner for the entire family and free childcare during the event.

Please RSVP so we can plan for food and childcare. Click this link to let us know you are coming!

Participate in an Upcoming Community Boundary Review Meeting

As a reminder, FCPS will hold two sets of community boundary review meetings this fall — one in September and another in October. Each set of meetings will focus on two pyramids per meeting.

All September meetings will include an overview of where FCPS is in the comprehensive boundary review process, an update and opportunity for feedback on school start times, how community input is informing the process, and next steps in the boundary review process.

The meeting for our pyramid will be held [insert event information for your pyramid]. Please register by clicking “in person” or “virtual,” depending on how you would like to participate.

Child care for in-person participants and language interpretation/translation for all participants will be available as needed.

Visit the FCPS website for a full list of meeting dates and information about the October meetings.
