Positivity Project
Cub Run is entering its 9th year as a P2 Partner School! This means that we implement a school-wide social emotional program called Positivity Project. P2 helps our students build positive relationships by recognizing and developing their character strengths. Teachers kicked off P2 this week during morning meeting with our “Intro Week.” After that, we will introduce and focus on a new positive character trait or mindset each week. “P2 for Families” is a great resource you can use at home to discuss the importance of character strengths and positive relationships. For more info click here: https://posproject.org/p2-for-families/.
Principals' Walking Club
Our Principals’ Walking Club will kick off in October on Friday, October 3 from 8:05-8:30AM. You are invited to come and join Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Haider, and other Cub Run staff to kick off the day with some movement! Please meet us on our upper blacktop. Our club charms will continue this year for Cubbies and staff attending. We hope to see you on October 3!

School Bond Referendum on Ballot Tuesday, November 4
The $460 million School Bond Referendum — supporting the division and county’s commitment to providing safe and welcoming learning environments for all students — will be on the Tuesday, November 4, general election ballot.
The funding provided by voter-approved bonds is expected to fund projects identified in the FY 2026-30 Capital Improvement Program, which was approved by the School Board in February.
A portion of 2025’s $460 million bond referendum is expected to fund renovations at our school. Learn more at fcps.edu/Bond2025.
The building and renovation of our schools is not funded through the division’s operating budget. Voter-approved bonds allow payment for these projects over time. Read more about the 2025 Bond Referendum. Watch this video that explains, “What Is a bond?”

Advanced Academics Parent Info Night
We will be hosting a parent information session on Thursday, September 25 from 6:00-7:00 PM in our library. Naomi Egerton-Baker, our Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, will provide an overview about the continuum of Advanced Academic services and review the screening process for full-time Advanced Academic services for students in grades 2 through 6.
If your child is new to Fairfax County (enrolled after January 2025) in grades 3-6 and you want your child screened for full time advanced academic services, the fall deadline is October 15, 2025.
For additional resources, you can also visit the Cub Run website. Please reach out to Ms. Egerton-Baker with any questions. (nhegertonbak@fcps.edu)
Ensuring Student Safety: Register for Volunteer FCPS
At Cub Run Elementary, our volunteers are a vital part of our school community. We deeply value the time and care they give to our students.
Recent updates to our volunteer process focus on one primary goal: keeping students safe.
These updates — such as checks against the sex offender registry and, in some cases, criminal background checks — are safety measures that will help us maintain a secure and supportive learning environment for every student in our care.
We encourage all our parents and community members interested in supporting our students by volunteering at school to visit Volunteer FCPS, click “Learn More,” and then “Sign Up.” After you create a profile, you will view an orientation video and complete a volunteer application.
Volunteer FCPS ensures a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. All volunteers must be registered in Volunteer FCPS. This includes individuals who volunteer to chaperone on field trips, work at book fairs, and help out regularly in classrooms, libraries, or cafeterias. Volunteers who work unsupervised with students will also be required to undergo a background check.
We understand these changes may seem disruptive, especially for long-time volunteers. Our intent is to ensure that our students feel safe and supported with each and every person they encounter at school.
If you are interested in applying for our WatchDOG program or being a field trip chaperone this year, please utilize this link.
As a reminder, all volunteers — and visitors to a school — are required to sign in by scanning their ID at our visitor kiosk. Visit the Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more.
Blue Star Welcome Week
Every year, approximately 600,000 military-connected families relocate. Most of these families move to new duty stations, while some transition out of the military and others transition in. Most of these moves take place over the summer, and Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to ensuring our military families feel welcomed and a sense of belonging to their local community.
Blue Star Welcome Week is an opportunity for our community to welcome our military-connected families and show them our appreciation for their service and sacrifices. Throughout the week, FCPS will help ease their transition through events, messages, actions of welcome, and opportunities to make meaningful connections. Please help us welcome our military families during Blue Star Welcome Week, September 27 - October 5, 2025, and throughout the year!
