Thoreau Matters Friday September 12, 2025

Dear Thoreau Families,

Get ready for our annual Back to School Night on Thursday, September 18, from 5-7 PM! This is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teachers and learn important detailed information about academic outcomes for each subject, expectations for the school year, supports for students, communication methods for parents, and more. The evening will begin promptly at 5:00 PM, and you will follow your child’s schedule. Please note that parking is limited, so we encourage you to carpool and arrive early.

Your child will bring home a handwritten copy of their schedule on Wednesday, or you can access it on ParentVue. We will be skipping 4th and 5th period Eagle Times; however, you will meet with your child’s 10th-period advisory teacher. Please see the image below for the detailed schedule.

Two optional sessions will be offered at 4:30 PM:

  • Multilingual Learner Information Session
  • Family Life Education (FLE) Preview Night

The PTA will be in the cafeteria. Please stop by to sign up for membership, make a donation, and learn how to get involved.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely,

Teresa Khuluki

Principal

September 11 National Day of Service

On September 11, FCPS acknowledges the loss of life, the heroism of our first responders, and the resilience of our country on that day in 2001. The September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, also called Patriot Day, is a chance to reflect and act in service to others to honor those who were injured or killed in the terrorist attacks.

All FCPS students are encouraged to participate in service learning as it supports Portrait of a Graduate (POG) attributes and social and emotional learning (SEL) skills. Middle and high school students can learn more about service learning by logging into their Naviance account to access x2VOL.

Save the Date: Community Conversations with Superintendent Dr. Reid

Your voice matters, and Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid wants to hear from you! At FCPS, parents are partners, working with us to set our students up for long-term success at school and in life.

A series of Community Conversations will be held across the school division to discuss current challenges and future opportunities. These events are also a chance for you to share your thoughts and ask questions about FCPS. Events are planned for the following dates from 6 to 8 p.m.:

  • Monday, September 29
  • Friday, October 3
  • Friday, December 5
  • Tuesday, December 9
  • Thursday, December 11

Locations and registration links will be shared in future issues of FCPS This Week. Child care and interpretation services will be provided. Events are open to all.
