Principal's Message

Hello Bruin families,

I'm excited to share another edition of our weekly newsletter, filled with important information about the amazing things happening at Lake Braddock. Our students and staff recently hosted a fantastic Pyramid Carnival, and I want to extend my gratitude to everyone who helped make it a success, especially our Student Government Association students and staff. This event was a wonderful example of the strong community we have here, and it's just a glimpse of the great things to come.

As a reminder, we're continuing to improve the efficiency of our weapons detection systems to ensure a safe environment for all. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us make student arrival as smooth as possible by ensuring your child arrives with enough time to go through the system. Additionally, with the unpredictable weather, please remind your student to dress appropriately for the conditions for the little bit of time that students might have to stand outside waiting to get through.

Thank you for your continued partnership. As always, we appreciate your support in making Lake Braddock a great place to learn and grow..

Important Reminders

7th Grade Depression Awareness and Suicide Prevention (ACT / SOS)

Middle School Student Services will be conducting Depression Awareness and Suicide Prevention lessons for all 7th graders through their Advisory classes on September 16th and September 18th. Please be aware that a counselor or clinician may need to follow up with students throughout the day, possibly during your class period. This is done to ensure that students who indicated they need support are seen within a timely manner. We appreciate your cooperation as we work to ensure the well-being of all of our students. If you have any questions about ACT / SOS or concerns about a particular student, please reach out to one of our team members. For planning purposes, Bruin Time will not be available to 7th grade students on September 16th and September 18th.

Know Our Security Terms

FCPS uses specific terminology to describe the actions school staff and students should take to ensure safety in a variety of situations. It is important for staff, families, and students to understand what the different terms mean and how they impact school operations.

Watch this video to learn about safety terms including lockdown; secure the building; and stay put, stay tuned.

If students, staff, or families have a safety concern at school (that is not an immediate emergency), they should submit a tip to the FCPS Safety Tipline. In an emergency, please call 9-1-1.

Every Day Counts: Setting Your Child Up for Success

September is Attendance Awareness Month. There are many ways parents and caregivers can help their children create healthy routines and make a habit of getting to school on time every day. Some examples include:

  • Set a regular bedtime and morning routine. (Need help? Download this checklist in English or Spanish.)
  • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
  • If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make them feel comfortable and excited about learning.
  • Develop back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent.
  • When possible, avoid medical appointments or extended trips when school is in session.

Visit the FCPS website for more attendance tips and resources. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!

Updated Special Education and 504 Handbooks

The Department of Special Services has updated and translated key resources to help our families of students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) and/or Section 504 Plan.

These resources help family and staff understand procedures, rights, and processes. Find additional information on Special Education Instruction and the Family Academy: Resources to Support Special Education and 504 Plans pages.
