September is Attendance Awareness Month
Every Day Counts: Setting Your Child Up for Success
September is Attendance Awareness Month. There are many ways parents and caregivers can help their children create healthy routines and make a habit of getting to school on time every day. Some examples include:
- Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
- Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
- If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make them feel comfortable and excited about learning.
- Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent.
- When possible, avoid medical appointments or extended trips when school is in session.
Visit the FCPS website for more attendance tips and resources. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!
Attendance Information
All Day Absences: The Attendance feature in ParentVUE is the FCPS secure web solution for reporting all day absences.
- Parents and caregivers can submit their student’s attendance directly through ParentVUE starting the first day of school. ParentVUE offers a more secure and reliable platform for managing students' attendance information.

Arrival / Dismissal
We have noticed a larger number of students arriving after our 8:10 start time over the past week. Please plan to leave for school a few minutes earlier each day to account for potential weather and traffic delays. If you are dropping off or picking up students, please use our Kiss and Ride plan. Dropping off or picking up students in the parking lot poses a safety risk to our students.

Sophomore (Class of 2028) Parent Forum
Managing Sophomore Year: Please join us for our first Sophomore Class parent forum on Thursday, September 18, in the Lecture Hall. Anna Brown (School Psychologist) and Jennifer Maddox-Byrd (Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist) will discuss the unique challenges of Sophomore year, including balancing academic pressure, supporting your teen as they manage stress and anxiety, and address parental concerns and how to best talk to your student about drugs, alcohol and tobacco. Socialize with other Class of 2028 parents starting at 9:00am. The program begins at 9:30am.
Please park in the bus loop located at the back of the building and enter through Entrance #10. You will go through the security screening (no need to sign in at the main office). Afterward, head upstairs and turn right—the Lecture Hall will be straight ahead.
College Visits (Week of September 15)
LHS will be hosting college and university admission representatives for information sessions. These sessions are for junior and senior students only. The complete and the most up to date list of visits is available in Naviance; a weekly list will be shared on the Class of 2026 and Class of 2027 Schoology pages as well as through News You Choose.
These visits are for students only and require a signed pass from their teacher to attend; passes are available outside of the Career Center. Attending class should be the priority, students should not miss a test, quiz, or presentation to attend a visit. If students cannot attend, they can contact Ms. Burke for the admission representative's contact information.

National Merit Semifinalists
Congratulations to the 23 Langley seniors who have qualified as Semifinalists in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program. Over 1.3 million juniors in approximately 20,000 high schools entered the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2024 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of US high school seniors and includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
This year’s recipients are: Oscar Anderson, Varun Bazaz, Abigail Davis, Michaela Frey, Matthew Han, Veda Jackson, Jarod Jiang, Eesha Kaushik, Yann Lam, Milan Le, Davanee Li, Michael Li, Sophie Li, Elizabeth Maclay, Madeleine Meng, Elliot Pomper, Risha Potluri, Paige Poulos, Syed Rishad, Aakriti Rustagi, Kailash Sastry, Dylan Thomas, Chenchang Zhang. Ensuring Student Safety: Register for Volunteer FCPS
At Langley High School our volunteers are a vital part of our school community. We deeply value the time and care they give to our students.
Recent updates to our volunteer process focus on one primary goal: keeping students safe.
These updates — such as checks against the sex offender registry and, in some cases, criminal background checks — are safety measures that will help us maintain a secure and supportive learning environment for every student in our care.
We encourage all our parents and community members interested in supporting our students by volunteering at school to visit Langley High School Volunteer. After you create a profile, you will view an orientation video and complete a volunteer application.
Volunteer FCPS ensures a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. All volunteers must be registered in Volunteer FCPS. This includes individuals who volunteer to chaperone on field trips, work at book fairs, and help out regularly in classrooms, libraries, or cafeterias. Volunteers who work unsupervised with students will also be required to undergo a background check.
We understand these changes may seem disruptive, especially for long-time volunteers. Our intent is to ensure that our students feel safe and supported with each and every person they encounter at school.
As a reminder, all volunteers — and visitors to a school — are required to sign in by scanning their ID at our visitor kiosk. Visit the Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more.
Will you please donate to the PTSA today?
The PTSA supports the Langley community by funding classroom and teacher support, academic teams, sponsoring and hosting events, and working to make sure our amazing Langley staff knows how grateful our families are for the great work they do for our students. If you read the 06/12/25 eNews, there's a list of all of the things the PTSA funded, and this year's PTSA would like to continue the same level of support or more! This is where we need your help: Please join and donate here, and thank you for your support! While you're at it, please check out our Back to School resource page for information on Langley class groups, boosters and more.
