Early Release Wednesdays - Dismissal Info
As we look toward the next early release Wednesday on 10/29, we want to share some information on how dismissal differs from the normal time. Students staying for childcare hardship are gathered and attendance is taken to ensure they are accounted for BEFORE students are dismissed to buses, SACC, Kiss & Ride and walkers. This may result in students being dismissed a bit later than 12:30. Please be patient as we ensure all student safety!
Our lists of students staying for childcare hardship have been finalized. Parents may not opt-in to staying any longer as we have set our staffing needs based on family responses. Parents can opt to have their children leave at 12:30 p.m. by calling the school prior to the next early release day – doing so will change your status for ALL the remaining early release days.
For students staying after 12:30 p.m., please limit picking your child up early between 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. to appointments only.
As a reminder, the following is a list of the remaining early release days this school year. Students are provided a lunch break prior to dismissal.
- October 29
- November 12
- December 10
- February 18
- March 18
- April 22

Kiss & Ride Registration - NEW
We are rolling out all new Kiss & Ride numbers this year. All families who will utilize OHES Kiss & Ride need to register here. New placards will be distributed to students in their Tuesday folders. Please follow the Kiss & Ride rules to ensure the safety of all students. PLEASE ONLY REGISTER ONCE! If you mistakenly did it twice, please use only one number to avoid confusion for your child and staff.
SAFETY concerns: please do not block driveways on Sydenstricker Road or the entrance driveway to the school when lined up for Kiss & Ride. DO NOT drive around cars waiting in line - please be patient and wait your turn to pull and out of the school.

Ensuring Student Safety: Register for Volunteer FCPS
Volunteer FCPS ensures a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. All volunteers must be registered in Volunteer FCPS prior to volunteering.
Our intent is to ensure that our students feel safe and supported with each and every person they encounter at school.
As a reminder, all volunteers — and visitors to a school — are required to sign in by scanning their ID at our visitor kiosk. Visit the Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more.
Click here to begin the process. You MUST be registered and cleared as a LEVEL 3 volunteer to go chaperone field trips. If you think you may want to chaperone a field trip, please register and sign-up as Level 3.

Cell Phone Policy
We Are a Phone-Free School!
Please remind your student that cell phones and personal devices (smart watches, air pods, earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the internet) must be off and away for the entire school day (bell to bell). Cell phones are also not permitted to be used as an instructional tool. If you need to contact your student during the school day, please call our front office at 703-913-6800. Learn more about FCPS’ cell phone policy, which helps students stay focused, safe, and engaged at school.
Blue Star Welcome Week
Every year, approximately 600,000 military-connected families relocate, and schools are a primary way they get integrated into their new location. Most of these families move to new duty stations, while some transition out of the military and others transition in. Most of these moves take place over the summer, and Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to ensuring our military families feel welcomed and a sense of belonging to their local community.
Blue Star Welcome Week is an opportunity for our community to welcome our military-connected families and show them our appreciation for their service and sacrifices. Throughout the week, FCPS will help ease their transition through events, messages, actions of welcome, and opportunities to make meaningful connections. Please help us welcome our military families during Blue Star Welcome Week, September 27 - October 5, 2025, and throughout the year! #BlueStarWelcomeWeekFCPS
