Meet our Specialists

Kendra Trainer2

Kendra Trainer, Reading Specialist

I am the reading specialist here at Hayfield Elementary.  I work with teachers and teams to implement the Benchmark curriculum, plan differentiation for all students, and with individual teachers to coach and model lessons.  I provide intervention to students who need just a little more help with reading skills.

Sara Wilska

Sara Wilska, Math Resource Teacher

I am Sara Wilska, the Math Resource Teacher and School Testing Coordinator here at Hayfield. My main role is to work with teachers to plan math lessons that help all students understand math. We work on finding the best supports and extensions to meet all students where they are. As the School Testing Coordinator, I organize all of our county and state required testing. This is my seventh year at Hayfield.

The Speech and Language Team

What is our role? We assess and provide services for students with speech and language disorders (articulation clarity of speech), voice quality, fluency (stuttering), and language (understanding and using words).

Did you know? All Fairfax County Public Schools offer speech and language intervention services. Speech and language intervention is considered a special education service in a public school, and therefore, children must be found eligible through the Local Screening Committee to receive this service at school.

Pam Kugelman-Ryan

Pamela Kugelman-Ryan, M.S. CCC-SLP
Speech Language Pathologist

I have been at HES for over 20 years, and I continue to love the Hayfield community. I was born and raised in the Hudson Valley in New York.

I received my master’s degree at the College of St Rose in New York in Communication Disorders and earned an endorsement in Education Administration from the University of Virginia.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my daughter which includes attending her swim meets/ practices and color guard performances, traveling, working out, and spending time with my nephews. I love the fall, the fall festivals, and fall food such as caramel chocolate covered apples and Starbucks pumpkin chai anything. We are also a cat loving family!

Courtney Evers

Courtney Evers

Speech Language Pathologist Assistant

Courtney Evers brings over 15 years of experience working with children to her role as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant. She has previously worked as a teacher at both the elementary and secondary levels, where she developed a strong understanding of student development and learning. Through her years in education, she discovered a deep passion for speech and communication, which inspired her to pursue a more focused role in helping students become confident communicators. Outside of school, she enjoys photography, hiking, traveling, and spending time at the beach. She is excited to support students and families throughout the school year.

Ms Fry

Ms. Fry
Speech Language Pathologist

I work with Mrs. Evers to provide speech-language therapy for students at Hayfield Elementary, Stratford Landing Elementary, and West Potomac High School. I connect virtually for sessions while Mrs. Evers is present in the school building. We use hands-on materials and virtual materials to help students learn and meet their speech therapy goals. This is my 11th year as a speech-language pathologist.

When I am not working, I enjoy baking, sewing and needlework projects, and spending time with my husband and son. Our family enjoys visiting the park together and going for bike rides.

Volunteer at Hayfield ES

Ensuring Student Safety: Register for Volunteer FCPS

At Hayfield Elementary School, our volunteers are a vital part of our school community. We deeply value the time and care they give to our students.

Recent updates to our volunteer process focus on one primary goal: keeping students safe.

These updates — such as checks against the sex offender registry and, in some cases, criminal background checks — are safety measures that will help us maintain a secure and supportive learning environment for every student in our care.

We encourage all our parents and community members interested in supporting our students by volunteering at school to visit the school website, click “Learn More,” and then “Sign Up.” After you create a profile, you will view an orientation video and complete a volunteer application. Please check back on your status to ensure the registration process goes quickly.

Volunteer FCPS ensures a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. All volunteers must be registered in Volunteer FCPS. This includes individuals who volunteer to chaperone on field trips, work at book fairs, and help out regularly in classrooms, libraries, or cafeterias. Volunteers who work unsupervised with students will also be required to undergo a background check.

We understand these changes may seem disruptive, especially for long-time volunteers. Our intent is to ensure that our students feel safe and supported with each and every person they encounter at school.

As a reminder, all volunteers — and visitors to a school — are required to sign in by scanning their ID at our visitor kiosk. Visit the Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more.  You may also email Marily Grotz, Family Liaison, at mgrotz@fcps.edu for assistance.

Blue Star Banner

Every year, approximately 600,000 military-connected families relocate, and schools are a primary way they get integrated into their new location. Most of these families move to new duty stations, while some transition out of the military and others transition in. Most of these moves take place over the summer, and Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to ensuring our military families feel welcomed and a sense of belonging to their local community.

Blue Star Welcome Week is an opportunity for our community to welcome our military-connected families and show them our appreciation for their service and sacrifices. Throughout the week, FCPS will help ease their transition through events, messages, actions of welcome, and opportunities to make meaningful connections. Please help us welcome our military families during Blue Star Welcome Week, September 27 - October 5, 2025, and throughout the year!
