Message from Mr. Greata
Our first Parent-Teacher-Student Organization (PTSO) meeting of the year will be held this Tuesday at 7:00 PM in person, in our library. Please join us in supporting this amazing organization that provides so much for our school. Many important topics will be discussed, including the All-Night Grad Party and you’ll also get to hear upcoming student activities from some of our student leaders.
Thank you to everyone who has already joined the PTSO—our membership numbers are up, and we want to keep the momentum going! If you haven’t yet joined, you can [click here] to learn more and become a member.
We are proud to congratulate our eight National Merit Semifinalists this year: Kavya Balachandar, Aiden Brennan, Ethan Lee, Alexander Liu, James Ngo, Ada Qin, James Stansbery, and Noah Yen-Goossens. This recognition is part of the National Merit Scholarship Program, which highlights students for exceptional academic achievement based primarily on their PSAT/NMSQT performance. More information about the program can be found [here].
Please note that the PSAT/NMSQT exam will be administered on Wednesday, October 8th, to all 10th and 11th graders. Seniors who registered for the SAT will also test that day. Freshmen will not attend school on October 8th.
Looking for something fun this weekend? Join us at Woodson for our Frost/Woodson Collabaret, a special collaboration with Frost Middle School as students perform musical numbers and short scenes. This event, sponsored by our Thespian Honor Society, builds community across our pyramid and gives our performers a great opportunity to shine. Admission is free, though donations to the Woodson Drama Boosters are encouraged.
As we begin the fifth week of school, it’s a great time to check in on your student’s progress. Our staff will be reviewing grades to identify students who may need additional support. We encourage families to log into ParentVUE to check grades regularly. If you don’t yet have access, you can find instructions [here].
Thank you for your continued support, and I hope you have a wonderful week!

SEL Screening
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) believes in supporting social and emotional learning (SEL) for all students. In FCPS, students use a tool called the SEL Screener to think about their own SEL skills and experiences at school. Woodson High School students in grades 9-12 will be participating in the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener in the Fall and Spring. The Fall SEL Screener date is Thursday, October 23, during 3rd Return.
Parents/guardians may request that their student not participate in the SEL Screener on an annual basis. This can be done via the Parent Digital Consent System OR by completing the Fairfax County Social Emotional Learning Screener Opt-Out Request Form, which is attached to this message below. If completing the form, please return it to your child’s school counselor (either by scanning and emailing it, or having your child bring it to the Student Services office). The deadline to submit the opt-out form is Wednesday, October 22.
After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE. For more information about the SEL Screener, including information on opting out, please see the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.

On Wednesday, October 8, all Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) high schools will have a two-hour early release schedule.
High school academy courses and shuttles will be canceled on this day. FCPS will provide regular bus transportation in the morning and after the early release.
Prior to the test, students will complete a digital readiness check that includes an optional pre-survey. If you wish to opt your child out of the pre-survey, you must email Kathleen Crosson by Friday, September 19, 2025. You'll need to include your student's full legal name and FCPS Student ID number.
Additional information about the content of the pre-survey and opting your child out can be found on the SAT and PSAT Pre-Survey Opt-Out Policy webpage at https://www.fcps.edu/node/36639.
