Hello Mustang Families,
Although it was a short school week, our Mustangs have been busy learning new grade level content, while finishing up the reading iReady assessment and beginning the Math MAP assessment. Teachers have also been busily testing students who require the VALLSS assessment to support reading instruction. Once all of these assessments are administered, we will use all of this great data to form intervention groups for students who may require additional support in math and/or reading instruction. If your child requires a personalized reading plan, you will be notified of this in early October as well as what the focus of the plan will be so that you can also support your child's reading progress at home. Please remember that iReady and MAP data is available for families to view in ParentVUE. If you need assistance understanding what each score means, please reach out to your Mustang's homeroom teacher for support.

Our first House Pep Rally of the school year will be held on Wednesday, September 17th! If your Mustang still has their House t-shirt from last year, please have them wear it. Our 3rd grade Mustangs and students new to the McNair Upper community will find out what House they are in on Wednesday morning and be given their House t-shirt soon. We can't wait to "Hoof It Up" with our entire school community and celebrate the awesome start to the school year we've had! |
I wish everyone a wonderful weekend!
Your Proud Principal,

FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan sets five main goals to create positive change in the division. These goals show where we should focus our attention and will help us align our efforts.
Each goal has an equity commitment — the promise we make to every student to support them in attaining these goals. Each goal also has several measures that allow us to track our progress.
The first goal in the strategic plan focuses on each and every student having a strong start in FCPS. Whether they’re joining us in preschool or in high school, we want our students to be set up for success. See how Goal 1 is being put into practice. Learn more about or enroll in FCPS Pre-K or Early Head Start.

Dr. Reid, Superintendent of Fairfax County Public Schools, has launched the FCPS Family Vision Group. This group brings together parents and caregivers in a meaningful way through sharing diverse perspectives to ensure that FCPS provides the best possible education experience for each and every student. The Family Vision Group also provides another opportunity to put our 2023-2030 Strategic Plan in action through meaningful communication and collaboration with families and caregivers.
By participating, parents/caregivers gain valuable knowledge and connections to become powerful partners in their child's educational journey. The group also facilitates open discussions with Dr. Reid on important topics related to student success. Bi-monthly meetings (August 2024 - May 2025) ensure consistent school representation and foster open communication through Q&A sessions, and feedback opportunities to help participants inform other families at their schools. The FCPS Family Vision Group seeks to recognize and strengthen the positive impact of community engagement on student achievement. Key responsibilities of the FCPS Family Connection Group Include:
- Regularly attend FCPS Family Vision Group meetings.
- Support the superintendent's outreach efforts to engage families and community members.
- Actively participate in the exchange of information and perspectives.
- Serve as ambassadors to your school community by being an additional bridge to sharing information between families and the superintendent.
- Commit to pursuing the interest of each and every student in Fairfax County Public Schools.
We are still looking for one more family representative to serve on this group to represent the McNair Upper ES community. If you are interested, please reach out to me by email at MMGoddin@fcps.edu or by calling the main office at (571) 982-1700.
Thank you so much in advance for your support of this division wide opportunity for families!
