Roadrunner Rundown

September 8, 2025

Principal's Message

Dear Marshall Road Families,

There are several changes in this week’s schedule to make note of.

  • Tuesday, 9/9 - There will be no school due to the polling taking place at many FCPS schools.
  • Wednesday, 9/10 - Our first three-hour release will take place. Thank you for your help in communicating your child’s dismissal plan.

Parents are invited to attend Back to School Night this Wednesday, September 10. This evening will allow you to spend time in your child’s classroom and hear about the grade level curriculum.

  • K and 1st grades: 5:00-5:45 pm
  • 2nd and 3rd grades: 6:00-6:45 pm
  • 4th, 5th, and 6th grades: 7:00-7:45 pm

Please join the MRES community this Friday, September 12, 5:30-7:30 pm for our Family Picnic sponsored by the MRES PTA. Enjoy an evening of outdoor fun with other Marshall Road families. There will be a food truck, pizza, ice cream, music, games, and more. Bring your whole family and enjoy the evening with the Marshall Road community!

Have a great week.

Much peace.

Safety at Arrival and Dismissal

Families are encouraged to use Kiss and Ride for pick up and drop off.    Please do not park along Marshall Road or in the cul de sacs during this time.  Parents and students who are walking on Marshall Road during arrival or dismissal should only cross Marshall Road at the crosswalk. To ensure the safety of your child we ask that you do not cross at Rachel Ln or any other point along Marshall Road outside of the crosswalks.

Attendance Matters

Every Day Counts: Setting Your Child Up for Success

September is Attendance Awareness Month. There are many ways parents and caregivers can help their children create healthy routines and make a habit of getting to school on time every day. Some examples include:

  • Set a regular bedtime and morning routine. (Need help? Download this checklist in English or Spanish.)
  • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
  • If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make them feel comfortable and excited about learning.
  • Develop back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent.
  • When possible, avoid medical appointments or extended trips when school is in session.

Visit the FCPS website for more attendance tips and resources.  Attend today, achieve tomorrow!

Caregiver Checklist: Have You Completed These Important Forms?

During the first weeks of the year, schools mail and email caregivers many forms to complete. Several of the most important ones are below:

  1. Digital Resources Consent: Some FCPS-approved digital resources require parent/caregiver consent before they can be used by students. Find the list of resources which require consent on the Digital Resources - Parent Consent page. This page also includes directions on how to provide permission so your child(ren) can access all resources provided by their teachers.
  2. Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R): This document explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses. Parents using SIS ParentVUE will be prompted to sign the document when they log in to that platform. A printable version of the document with a signature sheet is available on the SR&R webpage. This form should be signed and returned by Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
  3. Opt-Outs: The Opt-Out booklet is online or available from your child’s school. If you need a paper copy, please call the office at 703-937-1500.  It contains information on:
    1. Parents’ rights to inspect and consent or opt out before their child participates in certain surveys.
    2. Parents’ rights to inspect instructional materials.
    3. Rules regarding student records and disclosure of student information (including photo/video of students) and the right to opt out.
    4. Parents’ rights to opt out of the Social Emotional Learning Screener, career or social emotional counseling, Library Equity Access Pass Project, and/or Tutor.com.
    5. The process by which complaints may be filed if parents or students believe their rights have been violated.

Staff Spotlight

🌟MRES Staff Spotlight - Ms. Bambola

Ms. Bambola, a sixth grade teacher, has won the PTA priority parking spot for the week! Ms. Bambola has been at MRES since 2019. Her favorite thing about MRES is "the people I have met that have inspired me, given me strength and been an absolute pleasure to work with day in and day out!" Ms. Bambola loves to travel and cook. She especially loves to travel to places that inspire her to cook the food from that place. Fun fact: Ms. Bambola lived in Europe. Big cheers for Ms. Bambola!
