Centreville Students, Families, and Community,
Thank you to all the families who joined us last week for our Senior Parent Meeting and Back to School Night! As I stated in my message Wednesday night, we know that when families and schools work closely together, students thrive. Your continued support, presence, and engagement will be vital to our success as a school community.
In the spirit of continued collaboration, I want to encourage our community to join us for our first PTSA Meeting of the year on Wednesday, September 10 at 7:00PM. We have made it our goal this year to increase engagement and participation in the PTSA. On Wednesday, I will be sharing updates about key changes in school practices this year, such as cell phones, weapons detection, and bell schedule. I hope to see you there!
Looking ahead, our students and staff are excited for Homecoming Week, taking place September 22–26! From spirit days, Powder Puff, parades, and tailgates to the Homecoming Dance on Saturday night, it’s sure to be a week full of Wildcat pride. Additional details are provided below.
Finally, I’d like to share some exciting news for the Class of 2026. Graduation dates and times were released recently so mark your calendars. We will celebrate the Class of 2026 on Thursday, June 11 at 9:00AM at EagleBank Arena. Please share this date with family and friends. In the months ahead, we will provide more details about caps and gowns, rehearsals, and senior events.

Staff members will provide students a pass in order to ride the late bus. Late buses depart from Centreville at 4:30.
September 10 - PTSA Meeting: Please join us for the monthly PTSA meeting on Wednesday, September 10 at 7:00 PM in the Centreville High School Library. Dr. Healey will be sharing a “State of Centreville” presentation to provide updates on key changes in the 2025-2026 school year including cell phone policy, weapons detection screening, and modifications to the bell schedule. We invite you to join the Parent, Teacher, Student Association (PTSA) to help foster a positive and inclusive school climate. Your involvement in PTSA is an opportunity to strengthen relationships and make a lasting impact on our school community. If you are not a member of the CVHS PTSA, learn more about membership, donations, and information from previous meetings here.
September 13 - Music Tag Day: Tag Day is the music department’s biggest fundraiser each year. Groups of students with a parent chaperone go door to door, asking for monetary donations in support of the Band, Choir and Orchestra programs. The funds raised provide sectional instruction, the purchase of equipment and music and more. Thank you in advance for supporting our performing arts programs!
September 13 - Food For Neighbors Red Bag Event: Centreville High School is proud to partner with Food For Neighbors (FFN) to help feed our local students who deal with food insecurity because even in a county as wealthy as Fairfax, one in four kids in our area are struggling with hunger. Studies show that when adolescents are fed positive outcomes include increased enrollment in challenging courses, higher graduation rate, improved mental and physical health, a decrease in disruptive behaviors and increased participation in after-school activities".
Food For Neighbors is a local organization addressing this problem by collecting food from our community via their Red Bag Program and donating directly to our local schools. The food is then distributed to the students every week through our food pantry.
September 13 - Classroom on the Mall Fall Fashion Show: Our Classroom on the Mall students will be hosting their Fall Fashion Show at Fair Oaks Mall at 4:00PM. Students organize the entire event and we invite you to come watch their hard work come to fruition.
September 15 - CATS Period Begins: Students and families may have noticed on our bell schedule this year the addition of CATS Period in lieu of PLUS Rotations. CATS (Continuous Achievement & Targeted Support) period is designed to provide students with targeted intervention during the school day. Students will either be identified for intervention based on data and needs will be prioritized based on time of year, testing windows, and progress toward completion of graduation requirements or they will be assigned to a study hall during this time. Students identified for intervention will remain in their Intervention cycles for approximately 6 weeks. Students not identified for intervention will be assigned to a study hall, but will be able to make appointments to see other study hall teachers. Students will receive a ROAR lesson on September 11 to describe the expectations and procedures for CATS period.

FCPS 2023-2030 Strategic Plan: FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan sets five main goals to create positive change in the division. These goals show where we should focus our attention and will help us align our efforts. Each goal has an equity commitment — the promise we make to every student to support them in attaining these goals. Each goal also has several measures that allow us to track our progress.
-
Goal 1: Strong Start, Pre-K-12: The first goal in the strategic plan focuses on each and every student having a strong start in FCPS. Whether they’re joining us in preschool or in high school, we want our students to be set up for success. See how Goal 1 is being put into practice. Learn more about or enroll in FCPS Pre-K or Early Head Start.
-
Goal 2: Schools Build Belonging so Students Can Thrive: What does belonging look like in our schools? Fairfax County public schools are creating inclusive, supportive environments where every student feels known, valued, and connected — the second goal of the Strategic Plan. From mentoring to cross-grade collaboration, when students feel safe and supported, they can truly thrive — academically, socially, and emotionally. See how Goal 2 is being put into practice.
-
Goal 3: Academic Growth and Excellence: Our third goal is for all students to achieve academic growth and excellence. We want our students to have the academic skills to be successful. See how Goal 3 is being put into practice.
Every Day Counts: Setting Your Child Up for SuccessSeptember is Attendance Awareness Month. There are many ways parents and caregivers can help their children create healthy routines and make a habit of getting to school on time every day. Some examples include:
- Set a regular bedtime and morning routine. (Need help? Download this checklist in English or Spanish.)
- Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
- If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make them feel comfortable and excited about learning.
- Develop back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent.
- When possible, avoid medical appointments or extended trips when school is in session.
Visit the FCPS website for more attendance tips and resources. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!
Safety Drills During the School Year: Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for FCPS. Each school has an emergency preparedness plan to respond to incidents such as fires and tornadoes. Schools are required by state law to practice emergency drills, including lockdown drills, each year. Schools are also required to notify parents and guardians at least 24 hours before a school conducts a lockdown drill. However, schools are not required to give the specific date and time of the drill in advance.
The first lockdown drill of the school year must take place within the first 20 days of school. Your child may come home and talk about their experience during the drill. We encourage you to talk with your child about the importance of being prepared for emergencies. Please review these frequently asked questions to support your students before and after school lockdown drills.
