Atoms Athletics Recap

Golf continued their hot streak this week with a third win in a row! The Atoms took down the Lancers to move their district record to 3-1. The Atoms continue to get better with each match and will be tested in their next match Monday vs perennial district power TJ.

Girls Volleyball welcomed Edison to campus Wednesday night. The freshman and JV teams played hard but fell short in their attempt to bring home a W. The varsity team came out on fire, taking a 2-0 set lead into the third. However, the Atoms couldn't put the Eagles away in the third and fourth, taking the match to a 5th set. It was a back and forth set but unfortunately the Eagles came out on top 16-14 in the deciding set. The Atoms travel to Justice Monday evening.

Boys Volleyball traveled to Edison Wednesday evening to take on the Eagles. The youth of the Atoms showed throughout the match as the Eagles took down the Atoms. It was a quick turnaround as the Atoms played host to Nova Home School Thursday evening. It was an exciting match as both teams played well taking the match to a 5th set where Nova came away with a close win over the Atoms. The Atoms play host to Justice Monday evening.

Field Hockey played host to West Potomac on Monday evening and the crowd was treated to an exciting game. The JV Atoms took the Wolverines to the buzzer playing a hard fought game but came up just short losing 1-0. The varsity Atoms took care of business during their game as they took a part the Wolverines on their way to a 2-0 non-district win. The Atoms travel to West Springfield Tuesday evening.

Football traveled down 95 to square off with Freedom-Woodbridge Eagles for their first road game of the season. The Atoms came out on fire, holding the Eagles to a 3 and out and followed it up scoring on the second play from 40 yards out to take an early 7-0 lead. The Atoms again held to a 3 and out and four plays later the Atoms scored on a nice pass and catch to make it 14-0 after just three minutes. However, the Atoms cooled off until halftime where they led 14-6. The second half looked like the first three minutes as they Atoms scored multiple times including a blocked punt to cruise to a 42-6 win. The Atoms travel again next week as they head to Meridian.

Boys and Girls Cross Country  had the week off but get back to the ground today at Burke Lake Park for the Monroe Parker Invitational.

Atoms Boosters Concession Stand Help

Attention Parents! Volunteers are needed to sell concessions at games throughout the year, starting with fall sports Football and Volleyball. We welcome any and all parents to volunteer but when parents of a particular sport work a game, a portion of concessions sales directly benefit that team. If you are not able to help directly at home games, there are many ways you can get involved with the Atoms Athletics Boosters by attending our monthly meetings or being a team liaison. Thank you for your support for Atom’s Athletics!

For questions about concession stand sign ups, contact Lissette Puna.
