Back to School Night

September 10 - Back to School Night

Please join us for Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 10. This event offers an excellent opportunity to meet your child's teacher, familiarize yourself with their classroom environment, and gain insights into the curriculum and expectations for the year.

Back To School Night Schedule  (6:30-8:05 pm)

Session 1- 6:30 – 7:15 pm

Session 2- 7:20 - 8:05 pm

Specials

First and second graders are learning many skills and having fun in specials-art, library, music and physical education!

Walker Door (Door 12)

To keep all students and families safe and the entrance clear, we ask all families using the walker door to assist with the following procedures.

Arrival 8:55-9:05

Students line up in a single file line next to the grass on their assigned side of the door.  Parents, please line up next to your students to allow arriving families space to walk on the sidewalk without stepping into the street. Students need to stay in line and not be moving about.

Dismissal 3:55-4:05

Pre-K and Kindergarten parents are required to pick up their students from the walker door.  We request that parents of students in grades 1-6 wait by the bike rack which will allow a clear sidewalk for everyone to exit the building safely.  Please talk to your students about meeting at the bike rack at the end of the  school day.

Animals are not allowed on school property.  Do not bring pets to arrival or dismissal.

Advanced Academics Parent Information Night

Please join Keene Mill’s Advanced Academics resource teacher Mrs. Julia Brandt to get more information about the levels of service, explain the screening process, better understand Fairfax County Public Schools’ philosophy on Advanced Academic Programs, and learn how an elementary school student’s needs for advanced learning are met through a variety of services in the continuum.

Every Day Counts: Setting Your Child Up for Success

  • September is Attendance Awareness Month. There are many ways parents and caregivers can help their children create healthy routines and make a habit of getting to school on time every day. Some examples include:
  • Set a regular bedtime and morning routine. (Need help? Download this checklist in English or Spanish.)
  • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
  • If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make them feel comfortable and excited about learning.
  • Develop back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent.
  • When possible, avoid medical appointments or extended trips when school is in session.

Visit the FCPS website for more attendance tips and resources. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!
