Dear TLES Families,
Get ready for an amazing day! We are so excited to celebrate our school's 70th anniversary with you tomorrow, Saturday, September 6th from 11:30-2:30.
Event Highlights
Join us for a day packed with fun, food, and music!
-
Live Music: We are so excited to welcome back two TLES favorites! Retired 2nd-grade teacher Mrs. Bates and her band will perform from 1:30-2:15 PM, and retired Kindergarten instructional assistant Mr. Nicholson and his wife will perform from 11:30 AM-12:30 PM. One of our favorite TLES parents, Michael Atlan will be tearing it up and DJing from 12:30-1:30.
-
Games & Activities: Enjoy inflatable bouncers, fun games, and craft stations for the kids.
-
Food & Shopping: Delicious food trucks will be on-site for purchasing sweet treats and/or lunch! You can also purchase TLES spirit wear and check out a table of historic artifacts.
Getting Around
To accommodate our food trucks, inflatables, and all our wonderful guests, the bus loop will be closed for the event. The playground area will be home to our live music stage, games, and other activities.
Restroom Access
For everyone's safety and convenience, the only entrance for restrooms will be through Door #5. Restrooms will be available within the two SACC rooms only (first two classrooms upon entering Door #5).
We're looking forward to celebrating our wonderful TLES community with you! While the weather forecast shows some afternoon storms, it looks like we will have a great window of time to celebrate before they arrive.
See you tomorrow,
Ben Chiet, Principal
Sarah Buchanan, Assistant Principal

Safety Drills During the School Year
Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for FCPS. Each school has an emergency preparedness plan to respond to incidents such as fires and tornadoes. Schools are required by state law to practice emergency drills, including lockdown drills, each year. Schools are also required to notify parents and guardians at least 24 hours before a school conducts a lockdown drill. However, schools are not required to give the specific date and time of the drill in advance.
The first lockdown drill of the school year must take place within the first 20 days of school. Preschool and kindergarten students are exempt from practicing the first lockdown drill.
Your child may come home and talk about their experience during the drill. We encourage you to talk with your child about the importance of being prepared for emergencies. Please review these frequently asked questions to support your students before and after school lockdown drills.
⚠️ Know Our Security Terms
FCPS uses specific terminology to describe the actions school staff and students should take to ensure safety in a variety of situations. It is important for staff, families, and students to understand what the different terms mean and how they impact school operations.
Watch this video to learn about safety terms including lockdown; secure the building; and stay put, stay tuned.
Every Day Counts: Setting Your Child Up for Success
September is Attendance Awareness Month. There are many ways parents and caregivers can help their children create healthy routines and make a habit of getting to school on time every day. It starts with showing up. Daily routines at home help students build the academic skills and real-world habits they need to thrive. Here's how you can help:
⏰ Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
🎒 Pack bags and pick outfits the night before.
💬 Talk through any school worries with a teacher, school counselor, or other parents.
🆘 Make a backup plan for getting to school if something comes up.
✈️ Schedule trips and appointments outside school hours when possible.
