It was wonderful to see so many families at our Back to School Night yesterday! We hope you enjoyed connecting with the staff who will be supporting your child throughout the year. We are excited to partner with you as we help your child grow academically, behaviorally, and socially. This year is sure to be filled with exciting learning opportunities for everyone. As a reminder, there will be no school for students on Tuesday, September 9, as it is a Teacher Workday.

Ensuring Student Safety: Register for Volunteer FCPS
At Saratoga, our volunteers are a vital part of our school community. We deeply value the time and care they give to our students.
Recent updates to our volunteer process focus on one primary goal: keeping students safe.
These updates — such as checks against the sex offender registry and, in some cases, criminal background checks — are safety measures that will help us maintain a secure and supportive learning environment for every student in our care.
We encourage all our parents and community members interested in supporting our students by volunteering at school to visit Volunteer FCPS, click “Learn More,” and then “Sign Up.” After you create a profile, you will view an orientation video and complete a volunteer application.
Volunteer FCPS ensures a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. All volunteers must be registered in Volunteer FCPS. This includes individuals who volunteer to chaperone on field trips, work at book fairs, and help out regularly in classrooms, libraries, or cafeterias. Volunteers who work unsupervised with students will also be required to undergo a background check.
We understand these changes may seem disruptive, especially for long-time volunteers. Our intent is to ensure that our students feel safe and supported with each and every person they encounter at school.
As a reminder, all volunteers — and visitors to a school — are required to sign in by scanning their ID at our visitor kiosk. Visit the Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more.
SEL Screener Parent Notification and Updates
The Fall Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener will be administered to students in grades 3 through 12 in October.
Students use the SEL Screener twice a year to share their perspectives on how well their school and community help them develop skills they need to succeed. The screener works by asking questions or presenting statements that students can think about and respond to. This gives students a way to share how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.
After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families without a ParentVUE account. For more information including SEL Screener questions and opt-out information, please visit FCPS’ Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.
Make Sure Your Children Are Up-to-Date on Immunizations
Please make sure your child has all of their necessary immunizations. Remember, all students are required to be immunized against certain diseases to attend school in Virginia. This is an important part of keeping children healthy!
Starting Tuesday, November 18, students who have not provided proof of immunization may not be allowed to attend school. Visit the How To Submit Immunization Documents webpage for step-by-step guidance on how to check your child’s immunization status and submit updated immunization information
Please check with your health care provider to make sure your child is up to date on required immunizations for the 2025-26 school year. If your child needs an immunization, make an appointment with your healthcare provider, visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a list of child immunization clinics, or view other Immunization Resources. Be wise and immunize!
New Math Screening and Growth Assessment for Elementary Students
Starting in September, FCPS elementary schools will use the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Math assessment to assess grade level mathematics skills in grades 1-6. The MAP Math test along with the iReady Reading test fulfill a state requirement to measure academic growth in grades 3-6 throughout the school year.
MAP Math tests are administered in the fall, winter, and spring. They help teachers identify students' strengths and areas where they may need more support.

Asegurando la Seguridad de los Estudiantes: Regístrese en Volunteer FCPS
En la Saratoga, nuestros voluntarios son una parte muy importante de nuestra comunidad escolar. Valoramos mucho el tiempo y el cuidado que dedican a nuestros estudiantes.
Las actualizaciones recientes en nuestro proceso de voluntariado tienen un solo objetivo principal: mantener seguros a los estudiantes.
Estas actualizaciones, entre ellas, revisiones del registro de ofensores sexuales y en algunos casos, verificaciones de antecedentes criminales, son medidas de seguridad que nos ayudan a mantener un ambiente escolar seguro y de apoyo para todos los estudiantes.
Invitamos a todos los padres y miembros de la comunidad interesados en apoyar a nuestros estudiantes como voluntarios a que visiten Volunteer FCPS,oprime “Conozca sobre los programas”, y luego “Inscribete como Voluntario” . Después de crear un perfil, verá un video de orientación y completará la solicitud para ser voluntario.
“Volunteer FCPS” garantiza un ambiente seguro, constante y acogedor en todas nuestras escuelas. Todos los voluntarios deben estar registrados en “Volunteer FCPS”. Esto incluye a las personas que ayudan como acompañantes en excursiones, trabajan en ferias de libros, o colaboran de forma regular en salones, bibliotecas o cafeterías. Notificación y Actualizaciones para Padres sobre la Encuesta SEL
La Encuesta de Aprendizaje Social y Emocional (SEL, por sus siglas en inglés) será tomado por los estudiantes entre los grados 3 y 12 en el mes de octubre.
Dos veces al año, los estudiantes usan la encuesta SEL para compartir sus perspectivas acerca de qué tan bien sus escuelas y comunidades les han ayudado a desarrollar las habilidades que necesitan para ser exitosos. La encuesta consiste en formular preguntas o presentar afirmaciones en las que los estudiantes pueden reflexionar y responder. Esto les da una forma de expresar si en su escuela se sienten valorados, incluidos y apoyados.
Después de cada encuesta, estarán disponible en la pestaña Documentos dentro de SIS ParentVUE y serán enviados por correo a las familias que no tengan una cuenta en ParentVUE. Asegúrese de que su Niño Esté al Día con sus Vacunas
Por favor asegúrese de que su niño tenga todas las vacunas necesarias. Recuerde que para poder asistir a la escuela en Virginia, todos los estudiantes están obligados a estar vacunados contra ciertas enfermedades. ¡Esto es muy importante para que podamos mantener a nuestros niños saludables!
A partir del martes 18 de noviembre, los estudiantes que no hayan entregado prueba de vacunación, podría no permitírsele el acceso a clases. Visite la página Cómo Enviar Documentos de Vacunación para que encuentre una guía paso a paso sobre cómo revisar el estatus de vacunación de su niño y cómo enviar información actualizada de vacunación.
Por favor, revise junto a su médico si su niño está al día con todas las vacunas exigidas para comenzar el año escolar 2025-2026. Si todavía necesita alguna vacuna, haga una cita para que la reciba, visite la página web del Departamento de Salud del Condado de Fairfax para que encuentre una lista de clínicas de vacunación infantil, u otros recursos sobre las vacunas. ¡Sea inteligente y vacune a su niño!
Nueva Evaluación de Matemáticas y de Crecimiento para Estudiantes de Primaria
A partir del mes de septiembre, las escuelas primarias de FCPS usarán la Medición del Progreso Académico (MAP, por sus siglas en inglés) en las evaluaciones matemáticas para determinar el grado de habilidades que tengan los estudiantes entre los grados 1 y 6. El examen MAP de matemáticas, junto al examen”iReady Reading” satisfacen los requisitos estatales que exigen medir durante todo el año escolar, el crecimiento académico de los estudiantes entre los grados 3 al 6.
Los exámenes MAP de matemáticas son administrados en el otoño, en el invierno y en la primavera. Estos ayudan a los maestros a identificar cuáles son las fortalezas de los estudiantes y en qué áreas podrían necesitar más apoyo.
