Woodson Weekly is published every Monday to provide the community with important information about school life at Woodson High School.
Vision Statement
Carter G. Woodson High School is a community that embraces diversity in a culture of improvement and success that promotes academic curiosity and individual mental and physical growth.
Message from Mr. Greata
We had an incredible stretch of events at Carter G. Woodson High School, starting with our Back-to-School Night last Thursday. It was a wonderful evening filled with positive energy. Thank you to all the families who joined us and to our staff who stayed late to welcome and support our community.
Congratulations to our varsity football team, who earned a decisive victory over Edison on Friday night—our first win in more than 750 days! We are so proud of how far this team has come and are excited for the season ahead.
On Saturday, I had the pleasure of traveling to Washington, D.C., to the Spanish Cultural Center to celebrate 25 Woodson students recognized as award-winning essayists. Out of 71 total submissions, 25 were from Woodson High School and all 71 were awarded the Pioneer Award. Congratulations to Isabella Nguyen, who won first prize, and Aryan Romero Zamani, who won third prize. Students wrote about Bernardo de Gálvez and his contributions to the American Revolutionary War, learning how unsung heroes can make a lasting difference. Thank you so much to Senora Cohen, our Spanish Honor Society sponsor, for her enthusiastic support of these amazing students! Be on the lookout for a full feature on our website soon.
This is also the time of year for students to get involved in clubs. Many clubs are holding interest meetings, and our vibrant club life has something for everyone. Visit our Clubs and Organizations page to learn more and see the staff sponsors for each group. Our clubs make a powerful impact both inside and outside our building. For instance, our Environmental Club has grown and donated hundreds of pounds of produce from our school garden to Food for Others, a local food bank. This is just one example of many at Carter G. Woodson.
A quick reminder: tomorrow, Tuesday, September 9th, is a student holiday due to the special election—there will be no school. As always, please check out woodsonsports.com for sports schedules.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our students and community.

Counselor Corner
School is in full swing! Counselors are working hard to support students' wellness and academic success. We focus on the Social and Emotional Learning of students, helping to support students where they are. We will share some resources and supports with 9th graders this week through Social Studies classes, emphasizing starting the school year off well, getting connected to the Woodson community, and resources available to students so they have a successful high school experience. We highlight our Woodson Wellness site and Freshman padlet from our main Student Services padlet (please bookmark).
College application season is here! Counselors met with seniors on 8/26 to share important senior year planning info, review the Senior Checklist and Senior Year Process documents, and refresh on the importance of organization. A transcript processed on time is one that was requested on time. We require 20 school days to upload transcripts, complete Secondary Reports, write recommendation letters, and submit all documents. Note our transcript request timeline deadlines. All students must submit a Consent form IS-111 and a Transcript Request Form on time in order for us to submit transcripts.
Students! Get connected and participate in a club, sports team, or activity. Hey Day is coming up on 9/26 during 3/3 Returns and is a fantastic time to check out which club is a great match. Locate the Woodson calendar from the home page (scroll down to see the week’s events). A great way to stay informed and connected is to follow us (or your favorite club/team) on insta: @woodsonhs, @cgwstudentsvcs, @woodsoncavathletcs.
