We had a great second week of school at Lemon Road. Our students continued to learn about their classmates, teachers, and classroom routines. The Lemon Road community is grateful for our community partnerships. Recently we received school supply donations from Educate Fairfax and The Brigade of Mercy to help all Lemon Road students have what they need for a successful year.
We continue to model and remind students of ROAR expectations (Respectful, Outstanding, Attentive & Responsible). Below is the poster we use to discuss expectations in the cafeteria. We often remind students that they should behave in the cafeteria like they would at a restaurant with their family or during a family meal in their home. Help by reinforcing these expectations during mealtimes at your home!
FCPS has set the expectation that all students in kindergarten through grade 12 have homework. At Back to School Night, parents will hear the expectations for homework in each grade. Many grade levels will continue with assigning homework weekly, but some assignments may be due the next day. Help build this routine in your home by setting aside time each evening where your child has minimal distractions and focused on their reading and homework.

We encourage all our parents and community members interested in supporting our students by volunteering at Lemon Road to visit Volunteer FCPS, click “Learn More,” and then “Sign Up.” After you create a profile, you will view an orientation video and complete a volunteer application.
Volunteer FCPS ensures a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. All volunteers must be registered in Volunteer FCPS. This includes individuals who volunteer to chaperone on field trips, work at book fairs, and help out regularly in classrooms, libraries, or cafeterias. Volunteers who work unsupervised with students will be required to undergo a background check.
As a reminder, all volunteers and visitors to a school are required to sign in by scanning their ID at our visitor kiosk. Visit the Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more.
Thank you to the families who have filled out the Early Release Wednesday Google Form that was sent out last week. We have our first Early Release Wednesday on September 10th. To make sure every child has a safe and smooth dismissal, please complete the Early Release Google Form no later than Tuesday, September 2nd so childcare groups can be determined for the year.

Happy September, Lion Families! As we head into a new month, there are plenty of opportunities for you to volunteer and really get involved with your child's educational experience at Lemon Road.
Membership: Joining the PTA shows that you value your child's educational journey. PTA membership is $30 for family, $17 for individual, and $10 for alumni and grandparents.
Room Parents: At Lemon Road, each classroom has at least two room parents. Room parents help with class parties and help coordinate other volunteer opportunities in the classroom. If you are interested in being a room parent, reach out to your child's teacher ASAP, as the room parent orientation will be on September 16.
Armchair Fundraiser: WOW! Thank you to everyone who has donated so far to help support the "Rainbow of Needs" at Lemon Road this school year! We have less than two weeks remaining, so you can still donate!
Spirit Wear: There is just over one week to order fall LRES spirit wear. All items will be delivered to your child's classroom, so shipping is FREE!
Back to School Night: The PTA will be providing a catered dinner for the staff before BTSN on Thursday and we'd appreciate donations of drinks and desserts to help round out their meal. All donations should be delivered to the school by 4:30. If you can donate, sign up here.
LRES Polos: All students in K, 2nd, and 5th will receive a new LRES polo shirt, available you to pick up in the classroom at BTSN. New students in 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 6th can also receive a new LRES polo shirt in the cafeteria at the PTA table during BTSN.
Odyssey of the Mind: Does your child like to be creative and problem solve? Odyssey of the Mind is an excellent opportunity for your child to develop critical thinking skills, teamwork, and creativity, and is open to students in K-6. The interest meeting will be on Thursday, September 11 at 7:00 in the cafeteria.
Teachers use Schoology to post their classroom materials online; to provide a secure forum for students to discuss their ideas and collaborate on projects; and to assign and collect homework electronically. It helps students stay organized, and it keeps the class connected. A Schoology Parent Account gives you access to: Your child’s classes, your child’s upcoming assignments and school, class, and group announcements.
To access Schoology, parents will need to have an active SIS/ParentVUE account. Get more information on how to login and use Schoology.
