Dear Families,
As we close out our second week of the school year, I’m delighted to share that it has been another week filled with growth, learning, and community-building.
Throughout the week, teachers have been sharing stories and leading discussions about what it means to be a good community member. These moments—whether through read-alouds, classroom conversations, or student reflections—have sparked important thinking about kindness, respect, responsibility, and empathy.
We are proud of how our students are stepping into the school year—not only with curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, but also with a growing sense of what it means to contribute to a caring school community.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to all that lies ahead as we continue building a strong and joyful year together.

Students will be dismissed 3 hours early eight times throughout the school year and are encouraged to return home via their normal route. We understand there may be a childcare hardship for many of our families. If your child remains at school, please know these are non-academic times and no additional teaching will occur. All students are encouraged to return home at 1pm.
To help plan for our school’s childcare needs during the early release Wednesdays, please complete this form: https://forms.gle/3PhgDw9LfFvLpUry8 for each of your children who are enrolled at Fairfax Villa Elementary.
If you have multiple children, please include all children on the one form. The form covers all scheduled Early Release Wednesdays. Please complete this form by September 3rd so we can plan for a safe dismissal for all students.
Cat Wilkins, Fairfax Villa’s Advanced Academics Resource Teacher (AART), will be sharing an overview of the Advanced Academics Program in a virtual meeting for parents/guardians on Tuesday, September 16, at 7:00 p.m.
The presentation will include information on the continuum of Advanced Academic services, curriculum, testing, and general screening information. There will be a separate meeting later this fall to address specifics about the Full-time AAP screening process.

The FCPS Family Academy compiles classes, webinars, workshops, and programs offered by the school division to help you support your child’s needs and learning at home.
