Stronger Together
Dear Clearview Families,
It was wonderful to see so many of you at our Back to School Night yesterday. It’s hard to believe that this was only the second week of school! Students continue to adjust beautifully to routines and expectations. Teachers are working hard on building community and in grades 1-6, reviewing concepts from last year. Soon, students will take a variety of beginning of the year assessments. We will use the results to inform our instruction and to measure progress throughout the year. Remember, tomorrow and Monday school will not be in session so we will see you on Tuesday!
Would you like to recognize someone from our school who goes above and beyond? Submit a nomination to FCPS Cares.
Have a great long weekend!

After-School Clubs
Thank you to those of you who have returned your After-School Clubs Interest Form.
Students who are selected to participate in a club will receive a Permission Slip on Wednesday, September 3 which must be returned by Wednesday, September 10.
First Friday
Students and staff are invited to come to school wearing college or career clothing on the First Friday each month! Our initial First Friday will be on September 5. By introducing college and career concepts early on, we encourage students to think critically about their interests, skills, and values while inspiring them to reach their full potential. College and career exploration supports a variety of areas:
Confidence: A sense of direction can boost students' confidence and self-esteem.
Relevance: Understanding how education connects to real-world careers can make learning more meaningful and engaging.
Long-Term Perspective: Students can begin to envision the future and set goals.
Motivation: Seeing the practical applications of education can inspire students to put forth effort to achieve their goals.
Ensuring Student Safety:
Register for Volunteer FCPS
At Clearview, our volunteers are a vital part of our school community. We deeply value the time and care they give to our students.
Recent updates to our volunteer process focus on one primary goal: keeping students safe.
These updates — such as checks against the sex offender registry and, in some cases, criminal background checks — are safety measures that will help us maintain a secure and supportive learning environment for every student in our care.
We encourage all our parents and community members interested in supporting our students by volunteering at school to visit Volunteer FCPS, click “Learn More,” and then “Sign Up.” After you create a profile, you will view an orientation video and complete a volunteer application. You only need to register once regardless of what school your child attends.
Volunteer FCPS ensures a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. All volunteers must be registered in Volunteer FCPS. This includes individuals who volunteer to chaperone on field trips, work at book fairs, and help out regularly in classrooms, libraries, or cafeterias. Volunteers who work unsupervised with students will also be required to undergo a background check. If you think you may want to volunteer in the future, please register now so there is no delay in processing your request.
We understand these changes may seem disruptive, especially for long-time volunteers. Our intent is to ensure that our students feel safe and supported with each and every person they encounter at school.
As a reminder, all volunteers — and visitors to a school — are required to sign in by scanning their ID at our visitor kiosk. Visit the Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more.
🚗Transportation Patience and Safety 🚗
Thank you for your patience as we all get used to new routines this school year.
The safety of our students is our top priority. To help keep arrival and dismissal times smooth and safe, we ask that all families follow our Kiss and Ride procedures:
-
Drive slowly and remain patient while moving through the line.
-
Do not pass other vehicles while in the Kiss and Ride lane.
-
Follow the traffic pattern as directed by staff and signage.
-
Have children exit on the passenger side along the Kiss and Ride curb only — not from the driver’s side or on side streets.
-
Do not pull into the front of the school before 8:50 a.m. If you arrive earlier and need to walk your child inside, please park in a designated visitor space.
We appreciate your cooperation and support in following these procedures. By following the Kiss and Ride protocol, we can all work together to keep our students safe and make arrival and dismissal efficient for everyone.
We also appreciate you being patient while waiting for your children’s buses.
If your student’s bus is delayed, you may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. Email messages will be sent to announce significant bus delays.
Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE to make sure you receive email messages about bus updates.
Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!
The beginning of the school year is the best time to develop strong attendance habits! Students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform well in reading and math, develop strong social and emotional skills, and graduate from high school on time. Help prepare your child for future success. Visit FCPS’ Attendance web page for tips and strategies.
Free and Reduced Meals
As of October 31, 2024 approximately 36 percent of students in FCPS qualify for free and reduced-price meals. The free and reduced-price meals application includes an online option for parents to submit the information electronically for faster processing.
The online free and reduced-price meals application is available in the following languages (to change the language of the application click on the Language link in the top right of the screen).
***The online application can be completed on mobile devices.
Help Your Child Navigate the Lunch Line
Help your child get through the lunch line quickly and have more time to eat:
- Teach your child their student ID number to receive meals at school.
- Sign up for and add money to MySchoolBucks to purchase meals at school.
-
Apply for free and reduced-price meals. Students who were approved for free and reduced-price meals last year are eligible for the first 30 days of school this year (or until a new application is processed). Families should submit a new application as soon as possible, so eligible students continue to receive meals at no cost.
If your child has any food allergies, learn how to submit accommodations for dietary restrictions and allergens.
Access menus for breakfast, lunch, and other school meals, as well as allergen and nutrition information.
🔍 See Where Your Child Goes Online With Lightspeed
Parents can access their child’s activity on FCPS devices through Lightspeed, the school division’s internet content filtering service. Parents may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites their child visited.
The report also offers parents the ability to sign up for the Internet Use Parent Portal. Through the portal, parents may pause their child’s access to the internet on their FCPS device during non-school hours.

September 11: National Day of Service
With the upcoming 24th anniversary of September 11, FCPS acknowledges the loss of life, the heroism of our first responders, and the resilience of our country. The September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, also called Patriot Day, is a chance to reflect and act in service to others to honor those who were injured or killed in the terrorist attacks.
All FCPS students are encouraged to participate in service learning as it supports Portrait of a Graduate (POG) attributes and social and emotional learning (SEL) skills.
September 17: Constitution Day
On September 17 of each year, schools must hold an educational program in honor of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day. Schools determine what kind of educational programs are appropriate for their students. Learning experiences may be schoolwide or enacted through selected content or grade levels. Administrators should work with their social studies lead teachers to meet this requirement for Constitution and Citizenship Day.
Rosh Hashanah
Shanah tovah to our Jewish community celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year! Meaning “head of the year,” Rosh Hashanah is one of Judaism’s holiest days and marks the beginning of the Days of Awe, a 10-day period of introspection that ends with Yom Kippur.
Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Monday, September 22. That day is an evening-only observance day. Important events will not be held after school.
Tuesday, September 23, is a holiday for all FCPS students and staff. Schools and offices will be closed.
September 27 to October 5 - Blue Star Welcome Week
 |
|
Blue Star Welcome Week is a nationwide initiative to ensure military families feel a sense of belonging to their school communities. Fairfax County Public Schools will be intentionally celebrating and acknowledging Blue Star Welcome Week. |
Blue Star Welcome Week is an opportunity to empower military families to thrive as they serve. There are approximately 13,500 military-connected students enrolled in FCPS. Each year, one-third of our military families transition into or out of our district. Blue Star Welcome Week gives schools an opportunity to welcome and connect with their military families. The goal is to create a sense of belonging and ensure that our military families feel celebrated and welcomed into their school communities.

What’s on your mind? Mrs. Almquist is ready to chat with you! Send your questions to ClearviewElementaryPTA@gmail.com by Sunday, September 14 and we’ll raise them during our conversation time at the PTA meeting.
What does it mean to join the PTA?
All Clearview families are part of the PTA. Everyone is welcome at our events. We encourage you to come to our monthly meetings to meet other families, share questions and ideas, and hear school administrator updates.
You have the option to pay for a membership ($5-$15) as another way to show your financial support for local, state, and national PTAs.
