A Message from Ms. Kirkland
Thank you to all the families that came to our Back-to-School Night last night! It was so lovely to connect with so many caregivers and share about your child's classrooms. If you weren't able to attend, that's okay. You can reach out to your child's teacher and ask her to share Back-to-School Night information.
As summer winds down, please continue to work on getting bedtime routines in place. Being back in school can be very tiring. One great you can help your child is to make sure they are getting a good night's rest. The American Association of Pediatricians recommends 9-12 hours of sleep each night for 6-12 year-olds. Restful sleep helps our children focus, learn, and engage in socially positive ways.
Tomorrow begins a four-day weekend for our community. We hope that you enjoy a lovely weekend that is full of fun and rest!
As always, thank you for your partnership!
Kate

Band & Strings for Grades 4-6
Students in Grade 4 are eligible to learn a stringed instrument during their specials time. Students in Grade 5 & 6 may choose strings or band.
This week, our band and strings teachers met with students in Grades 4-6 to share these instruments as well as permission forms for participation.
Please connect with your child to ask them about this opportunity. They should have permission forms for you today. Permission forms should be returned to Mount Eagle as soon as possible so we can get your child started with this exciting learning.

Changes to Parent Volunteer Policies in FCPS
At Mount Eagle, our volunteers are a vital part of our school community. We deeply value the time and care they give to our students.
Recent updates to our volunteer process focus on one primary goal: keeping students safe.
These updates — such as checks against the sex offender registry and, in some cases, criminal background checks — are safety measures that will help us maintain a secure and supportive learning environment for every student in our care.
Volunteer FCPS ensures a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. All volunteers must be registered in Volunteer FCPS. This includes individuals who volunteer to chaperone on field trips, work at book fairs, and help out regularly in classrooms, libraries, or cafeterias. Volunteers who work unsupervised with students will also be required to undergo a background check.
We understand these changes may seem disruptive, especially for long-time volunteers. Our intent is to ensure that our students feel safe and supported with each and every person they encounter at school.
As a reminder, all volunteers — and visitors to a school — are required to sign in by scanning their ID at our visitor kiosk. Visit the Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more.
🍎 Make Every Day Count! The Importance of Attendance
As you plan upcoming trips and other family events, please remember the importance of sending your child to school every day. Review the FCPS School Year Calendar and try to plan any time away during breaks from school.
Children who show up for school regularly develop fundamental reading and math skills while building a habit of good attendance that will carry them into college and careers. Research shows that children who were chronically absent (missing 18 days or more) in kindergarten and first grade were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of third grade.
Learn how families can help form good attendance habits.
