A Message from Your Academy Admin

What a fantastic start to our year! We have enjoyed meeting all of our new Academy students and welcoming back our returning students. All students received a welcome packet in class and an Academy lanyard. Please remind your student to share that packet with you. There are also a few reminders below that we would appreciate you reviewing with your student.

Students are doing a great job understanding our new arrival procedure with OpenGate and cell phones and accessories being off and away. Please remind your student to have their lanyard with them everyday. If a lanyard is lost anytime during the school year, there is a $5 replacement fee.

Below you will find more detailed information about our Academy Support Team, including how they directly support students. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of us should you have any questions or concerns.

Looking forward to September, we will host our annual Back to School Night on September 4. If your student attends one of our commuter high schools, please stop by from 5:30-6:15pm for our open house format Back to School Night. Teachers will be in their rooms and the Academy Support Team will be in the commons for questions. Fairfax High School families will follow the FHS schedule from 6:30-8:30pm to visit classes, including Fairfax Academy programs.

We hope you all enjoy your long weekend!

Academy Information Packet

Click here for the 25-26 info packet.

This packet contains things you need to know: getting to and from Fairfax Academy, how to get a parking spot, how to report attendance to Fairfax Academy, inclement weather protocol for Academy, and more.

Here are a few highlights:

  • Does your student have specific health needs we should be aware of while they are at Fairfax? Please contact the Academy office - this information may not come across from your child's base school.
  • Is your student planning to drive to Fairfax Academy? Drivers need an Academy parking permit, even if they have a parking pass from your base school. See the packet to learn how. (And download the application here.)
  • Is your student in a midday (5th or 6th period) Academy class? They will have the option to purchase lunch in the FHS cafeteria, or bring lunch with them. The shuttle schedule typically does not leave time to purchase lunch at the base school.
  • Academy attendance procedures are a little different from base school attendance procedures. Your base school typically does not forward attendance information to Academy. Read below for details - it's in the packet, too.

Academy Attendance Information

Fairfax Academy follows FCPS attendance policies; there are some procedures that are specific to Academy. Your base school does not communicate attendance information directly to Fairfax Academy. Here’s how to make sure your student’s Academy attendance is correct.

  • Submit all day absences through ParentVue OR on the Attendance line at 703-219-4060
  • Submit partial day absences on the Attendance line at 703-219-4060
Phone reports must come from a parent or guardian, from a parent phone number listed in SIS.
  • Report absences on the day of the absence, but no more than two school days after the absence.
  • Correct absence errors by calling the Attendance line or emailing FairfaxAcademy.Attendance@fcps.edu

Arriving late for your class? Come to E119 for a pass to class. Bring a signed and dated note from a parent to excuse tardies.

Need your student to check out early? Parents must send a signed and dated note; students bring the note to E119 upon arrival. Parents may also call the Academy office at (703) 219-2226 and speak to a staff member to authorize early dismissal. (Please do not leave a message on the attendance line or via email - this will delay our receiving this information.) Students may not leave Fairfax Academy early until we have received parent permission and the student has completed check-out in E119.
